Seattle, Washington - Take a look around the cabin of the aircraft during Horizon Airlines inaugural flight  for  service between Prince George, and Seattle, and you see a lot of children.

There is, of course, your usual contingent of politicians on board the maiden flight, business men are working away on their laptops, and press people, travelwriters and reporters are recording  the event for posterity. But it is the children you notice. They are excited, and boystrous  and they all expect to be in Disneyland by bedtime.

Daily scheduled flights between Prince George, and Seattle, operated by Horizon Air, not only make it easier for businessmen to make contact with crucial markets and opportunities stateside. But also works for families looking to simplify holiday plans for trips to destinations like California’s Magic Kingdom.

Randal Heidt of Prince George packed his family of four on the plane today, saying that the plane out of Prince George makes the whole trip south easier on the kids and easier on the family. And he doesn’t cringe when the suggestion is made that he might now take his family to Disneyland next year as well.

“I’m going to go on all the rides today,” pipes up his five year old daughter Samantha when she realizes the conversation is about Disneyland. “Then we are going to meet the princesses!!

Halfway down the cabin, another group of four look like they are on the trip of their lives. Mom, Joey Anderson, says the quartet are, indeed, off to the Magic Kingdom. They left Ft. St. John yesterday, and Mom says they are very happy they made plans to fly from here. “This is saving us a lot of time, and a lot of money too with fewer meals, hotel stays and days on the road.

The President of Horizon, Don Rousso ,  was also smiling saying , who knows if it goes good we can have two flights a day.

But the daily service to Prince George from Seattle is expected to work the other way too.

One of the first passengers off the plane after it touched down on the tarmac at the, now, Prince George International Airport, was Dan Collins. He came here at the suggestion of his daughter who lives here in Prince George. He plans to do a little fishing while he is here, And who knows,” he says,,”If the fishing is good, we might have to think about coming back for the hunting. It’s a good way to get here from the States.

GOTTA LOVE IT
Gotta love the **hype** We have a year to make this a viable operation, otherwise we are out $400,000.00 Plus $300,000.00 for the extra customs staff.

I for one am not too happy about subsidizing someones holiday to disneyland.
Negativity is such a poison...lets jsut be happy we are not as "isolated" as people think we are. Good heavens Palopu, take a happy pill, grumpy pants!!
Some kids going to Disneyland? What about the child poverty everyone is yelling about? Maybe the newspaper should put both articles on the same page. You know, sort of to balance things out.
OMG, what is wrong w/ you people...it's NOT all about kids going to DL!!! Geez louise, get a grip!!!!! That is just ONE of the bonuses this offers us up here in PG and surrounding area...it has nothing to do w/ poverty in the area - different subject - and a very sad one at that!
Using my tax dollars to subsidize an American Airline doesnt make me negative. Maybe I should send my tax return to George Bush

This airline has a daily service flight into Kelowna, and flies into Kamloops four months of the year during Ski Season (Sun Peaks)

Dont you think they would have daily flights into Kamloops if it was feasible???

They have no interest in taking any risk by flying into Prince George and therefore want a GAURANTEE of $400,000.00 if passengers per flight do not exceed 60%. If they do not get the 60% they will take their money and be gone in a year.

This is not a business venture, its more like a fools enterprise, finianced as usual by the City who wouldnt give the local Farmers Market the time of day.

I suggest that all you people who support this venture get off your butts and buy a ticket to Seattle and beyond to make it a viable endeavour.

After all the pomp and circumstance on Thursday May 1st with the usual photo ops, we fast foward to Friday May 2nd. Outbound Passenger 14 inbound 26. Saturday May 3rd Outbound 16 inbound 24. The inbound passengers were 50% returning dignataries, and free bee riders.

Horizen and City Hall is waiting with bated breath for all you so called supporters to buy a ticket. In other words put your money where your mouth is.
