Prince George, B.C. - Mark May 8th on your calendar as that is the day the City will hold the first public consultation on the three development concepts for the property currently occupied by the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

The three concepts are similar in that all three call for the Roll-A-Dome site to become a hotel, the moving of the Prince George Playhouse, land for an Autop Mall, land for expansion of the Pine Centre Mall, land for a seniors centre and land for the development of an 18 hole par 3 golf course.

What is different between the three designs is the balance between residential and commercial development.

In a release, the City says the plans are only concepts at this point and are preliminary “The intent of this plan is to provide certainty to the general community, land owners, and developers respecting the appropriate land use and development of this key property at the intersection of Highways 16 and 97. The proposed concepts recognize the important historical role these lands played in the development of our community, as well as the existing economic, environmental and social issues that are driving the present redevelopment.”

The open house will take place at the PGGCC and will run from 4:30 to 8:00.

Make it all multiunit residential like what they did with 5th and Tabor. So we can have another VLA area for the next generation.

I would like to suggest to keep the 'big' course and the small course just as they are. I know lots of people who just love the layout of the PGCC just as it is. The trees will enventually come - with a little help. The new owners would have a real money maker - a great downtown course that is walkable. The Pine Valley track can continue to be a great 'starter' track and is also a nice short walkable round for the older set.
Residential and Golf Course. Works in the Lowermainland, why not there?
I can't see there being enough demand in town for a "revitalized" PGGCC, Aspen, Abderdeen and a new PGGCC. I don't mind the idea of turning the lands into an executive Par 3 course at all. It would be miles ahead of Pine Valley (which looks like a unkept field at the moment) and it could service the exact same market Pine Valley currently does. In short, I think it would be a GREAT addition to the golf facilites in Prince George.

The one thing that REALLY bugs me about this proposed development is the auto mall idea. Seriously? The absolute best piece of land available for development in all of Prince George and we're going to pave it and park cars on it? What a great way to show off the city . . . NOT. Casino on one corner and a lifeless car lot right across the street. The junction of 16 and 97 should be a show case for what the City is all about. It should spark interest and it should draw people in. A car lot won't even get a second look. It would be an ABSOLUTE WASTE and it would continue to be so for the next 20 years. If there must be an auto mall in this development, move it to the Pine Valley lands near where Wood Wheaton currently is. At least there it would fit with exisiting development.

Can we please reserve that corner for that one "WOW" project? Please?
I don't care what it is as long as it is attractive. Car lot - ridiculous!!!
A friend of mine is in the car sales business and told me that the Northland group is basically a shoe in to have its dealerships moved to this auto mall. I think it is a done deal already.
What a shame that would be...nobody will be surprised.
A beautiful park, entering into a golf course.
You know if the city was smart, they would develop this to function in a variety of ways. A park with foliage and plant enhancements. Along with water features and a home for the tourist centre. Not to mention that poor 'PG man'. It could facilitate an interesting walking musuem showing forestry machinary and equipment from days gone by. Quite fitting for the 'foresty capital'. Dont you think?

It could also be a good home for the farmers market.

Something I have always admired about Dawson Creek...thier museum and interesting buildings and antiques. Its so inviting. Always loaded with tourists, and immaciately kept.
A nice hotel with a par 3 executive course and covered walkways from the hotel to the pine center mall and over to the casino would be great.
