Prince George, B.C. - The Red Cross in Prince George is going to be working with seniors this week to help them be prepared in the event of a disaster. It is all part of the awareness campaign under Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada which runs through to the 10th.
Red Cross will not only be delivering an educational interactive workshop to seniors at Alward Place but will also provide each participant with an Emergency Preparedness Kit thanks to the generous donations of IDL Projects and Falcon Contracting.
“The presentation materials were developed for seniors by seniors to ensure the material was relevant,” says Sherri Flavel, Disaster Management Coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross. “The workshop also strives to increase social participation and reduce isolation as well as enhance opportunities for networking and association.”
Many people don’t think a disaster could happen where they live. However, every year Red Cross volunteers respond to thousands of disasters across the country. The Canadian Red Cross is encouraging people to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours following a disaster.
