Prince George, B.C. – “Colin Kinsley has been an exemplary leader, and whoever wins the next election will have very big shoes to fill” that was the reaction of Councilor Murry Krause following Kinsley’s announcement that he will not seek re election this November.
Kinsley says he is taking some downtime, and wants to spend time with his grandchildren “I have several, and some are old enough to play golf with” says Kinsley, “I want to spend more time with them.”.
He says he may take on a project in the private sector but future political moves are not in the cards. “That is a firm no” responded Kinsley when asked if he would be pursuing provincial or federal politics.
He says he decided to make the announcement at the NCMA because these are the people he has worked with most closely in the province, “And they have supported us very quietly behind the scenes on funding and issues that impact the north in many cases more important to Prince George than others yet they stood behind us. We’ve stuck together like no other, and I just wanted to share that with all these friends.”
Kinsley says the time had come for new leadership, and many of the projects he had pushed for are either complete or near completion “My vision was to make Prince George a gateway to North America, to get us on the world stage, that’s why for a very long time I recognized we need to access markets and opportunities in the Pacific rim and I think that’s moving along very well.”
Councilor Don Zurowski isn’t saying if he has decided to take a run at the Mayor’s chair, “It is a huge commitment and I don’t half commit to anything” says Zurowski. In the last election, Zurowski collected the top number of votes among all Councilors with 9,937
There are also rumblings that former Councilor Dan Rogers will take a shot at the job again. He lost the race last time round when he went head to head with Kinsley, but the final count was close with Rogers picking up 8008 and Kinsley getting the win with 8,650.
