Habitat for Humanity has received $500 thousand dollars from the Provincial government to provide 20 homes this year.
The dollars will be allotted to  new Habitat for Humanity projects throughout the Province which apply for the grant. The maximum grant per project is $25 thousand dollars.

The Habitat for Humanity group in Prince George is not expected to apply for any such grants this year as the group is working on completing a duplex project.

The B.C. Head of Habitat for Humanity, Jim Leppert says this $500 thousand dollar funding could become an annual amount if hi group can live up to the expectations. “We already have 24 projects that are vying for a grant, so I think we will meet the promise of performance. Who knows, maybe we will be negotiating a larger grant next year.”

Habitat for Humanity develops housing projects for low to middle income families. The grant agreement with the Province is the first of its kind in Canada.

Might be money well spent. I haven't heard of these Habitat houses being trashed like the houses we provide on reserves.
