Accenture is seeking to correct the record regarding the comment pertaining to Accenture’s history and association with Enron.
- Arthur Andersen and Accenture have been legally separate, distinct and independent since 1989, each with its own management, partners, employees, capital, premises, business, clients and market place images.
- For more than a decade before Accenture’s arbitration with Arthur Andersen (later known simply as “Andersen”) concluded successfully in August 2000, Accenture was independent of Andersen. It was not a subsidiary or division of Andersen and was not “owned” by Andersen.
- In August 2000, an arbitrator’s decision in International Chamber of Commerce proceedings expressly recognized the legal separateness of Accenture from Arthur Andersen and AWSC. The arbitrator agreed that Accenture was not a subsidiary or division of Andersen. The arbitrator’s award terminated the member firm agreements between Accenture and AWSC and, indirectly, the Andersen firms.
- The arbitrator’s decision also required Accenture (then Andersen Consulting) to relinquish the Andersen name. As a result, the company changed its name to Accenture on January 1, 2001.
The intent of this letter is to present the factual history of the company and avoid a future occurrence of misrepresentation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or require further information.
Thank you,
