RCMP officer Guy Tremblay,  Diane Sears of Community Policing,  Sergeant Pat McTiernan,  Inspector Eric Brewer and  ICBC's Diane Poser  at  news conference this morning.

Prince George, B.C. - The message was loud and clear, on this, the worst long weekend of the year for accidents, the cops are out to get those drivers who cause the problems.

Speaking at a special new conference set up at the intersection of Highway 16 west and Domano Blvd. Inspector Eric Brewer told the media and others gathered just what to expect.

“We have all of our road patrols out, radar, spot checks, Motorcycles and that plane flying overhead is the plane that will be used to catch speeders who think they have jumped the law. “

Inspector Brewer said more people get killed on the highways this weekend  than any other weekend of the year “And we are trying to put a stop to it.”

Speaking to the group Sergeant Pat McTiernan, said  they are making progress “We have reduced the number of accidents in this city by 14% but believe me we are not stopping there.”

ICBC’s Diana Pozer said that the intersection of Highway 16 west and Domano is getting better. “With three quarters of the year reporting for 2007, we were down from 46 accidents to 36 and from 17 to 12 injuries. This intersection is getting better.”

Lets hope this works...
and not one ticket issued...would show it is effective in my mind.
Slow down ...
the life you save may be mine....
My advice to all right thinking drivers;
You would not be drinking and driving anyway, although you might speed occasionally. But if you do get pulled over by some wet behind the ears fuzzy cheeked fuzz, be extremely courteous, and once you have pulled off the road, and are safely stopped, stick both of your hands out the window and yell "Don't Taser me"
officer. Tee Hee.
metalman.
Dippin into the sauce a little early there hey Metal.LOL
I disagree with they statement speed kills.
They need to rethink that one.
It needs to be rewritten as idiots that speed kill.
I speed almost always, but do it safely and in no way threaten anyones life or property.
I pay attention to what I am doing at all times when I am behind the wheel, whether I'm speeding or not.
Most crashes are caused by people that don't have a clue as to what paying attention really means.

As far as drinking and driving goes....I was a witness in a drunk driver caused crash at hwy 16 and Domano a few years back.
The drunk got away with it because the crown took to long to prosecute. I lost a days wages for nothing. I have also reported a few drunk drivers and they all got away.

"Speaking to the group Sergeant Pat McTiernan, said they are making progress “We have reduced the number of accidents in this city by 14% but believe me we are not stopping there.”

Oh I see, it was they that have reduced the number of crashes in this city by 14%.
They must have done that with all the speeding tickets they have issued along with the intersection cameras. How about the seatbelt traps at Ospika and Tyner or at the on ramp at hwy 97 and Ferry. They are my hero's.
Gotta love it when people take credit for things like that.

You can thank me for the nice weather we are going to have this week end.

With all these RCMP dudes out on the roads everywhere catching lawbreakers and filling coffers with fines, one would assume it has become a holiday for organized criminals and drug dealers. I guess drug dealers like long weekends because they know what the fuzz really find important. And it sure ain't them!
It doesn't really matter what the cops do about the drug dealers. The courts just let them off any how.
No argument here, pal.
The problem is the speeders are the low hanging fruit that is so easy for the cops to reach up and grab. It seems it is just to much work to catch the yo yo's that weave in and out of traffic, run the red lights, and generally cause havock on the roads.
as for the drugs......the dealers are the scourge of the problem, something like Al Capone was to booze.......perhaps there is a message there
Funny stuff...Joe187 sounds like one of those frustrated pieces of "Low hanging fruit" that can't figure out the rules of the road. What a clown!
Funny thing is the best time to speed is when the roads are poor. Blowing snow and icy, or a hard rain is the best time to speed.

When the sun is out, and the roads are dry and there is very little traffic, you will be caught speeding everytime. Why is that?
Joe must be one of those the police or ICBC busted or why whould he be so bitter about it.Sorry you fell that way joe.
I have had a speeding ticket too. Deserved it.... there were pprobbly a few others I didn't get that I should have.

They are guys and gals doing a job. Sometimes a very thankless job.
I a thankful we have TRAFFIC police takinkg care of seatbealts, speeding and other such infractions and the rest of them taking care of the other things.

Not sure how people can be so angry with the police but expect them to be on scene pronto if THEY need them.

It is all about choices....
we choose to speed or not
we choose to wear our seat belt or not..
we chosse to drink and drive..or not.
make your choice and bite your lip...
Might just as well saty home what with high gas prices and the cops out there ready taking money off of you for the Olympics.
This has nothing to do with the Olympics except maybe keeping us alive long enough to be able to go to them.....

They are trying to keep us all alive.....
against some peoples will it seems.
I doubt I can afford to go to our own Olympics. Time off work, (what work?)food, flight down there with fuel surcharge, where to stay, gas price surcharges (hidden and open) for taxis or buses to get around. Transportation to and from Whistler, eating there. Staying in Whistler is out of the question for most, tickets for the good stuff, if they aren't sold are in the hands of scalpers. I ain't talking about one individual either. The family? Ferget it, pal. Then there is the crime, prostitution, pickpockets, outright theft and a whole bunch of other things. I hate to sound negative, but what is the point? Sure hope the Olympics make some money. But it won't be from me directly. It will be and has been out of my taxes, which by the way will go down because of our new revenue neutral carbon tax. Right? I am sure everything will work out.
Oh I am not going either...
and will probably have to pay my share even though I chose not to, long after it is all over....
but we ain't here about Olympics...or are we?
On of the reasons I moved to PG is to get away from crowds and line ups. Not sure why I would want to pay anything to be in lineups, eat cardboard that is supposed to pass for food, etc., etc. and then get to see what I might be able to get a glimplse of between other's shoulders.

I can watch downhill racers as they come to a stop at the base and spray snow into the air. I think one can't beat television to watch those sports.
lunarbase, harbinger and joe187... why don't you check the facts before you go making statements that have ZERO value.

1. Drunk drivers kill more people BY FAR than people smoking pot... or any other drug, by the way. Drunk drivers are the number one killers, by far, than all drug deaths put together.

2. The killings done by organized (illegal) drug groups are most always people killed within the culture, not you and I. In contrast a drunk can kill anyone, anytime, including entire families, people that have nothing to do with the drunk driver and yet must pay for their behavior. I could care less, mostly, if meth or crack dealers knock each other off.

3. Check your physics, a car traveling at 100kph is carrying far more energy than a car doing 60kph, making the 100kph car far more dangerous, to you and I again, than the one doing 60kph. How is this 'evil' pot smoker harming anyone by sitting in front of the TV and eating donuts? Only when they get in the car high, like under the influence of beer, do they pose a threat to you and I. So why do you hate one with such passion and then want the police to leave the other alone? Drink and drive, do you?

My bet is this is classic hypocrisy yet again. You all speed, drink, and maybe drive under the influence,so you want a free ride with no threat to pay for your own law breaking but others who break the law are scum in your mind. And I'd wager you can't for the life of you see your own
hypocrisy..."drugs are illegal!" I hear you respond. So are speeding and drunk driving. Your double standards are remarkable for how naked they appear. One law breaking is OK but the other is the perview of the lowest trash. Is anyone awake in there?

Here's hoping the chances of hitting a drug dealer while speeding is offset by the chance a cop being nearby. Or something like that.
Hey kevin1006, everyone is a hypocrite. Some more than others. The whole world is full of contradictions too. When you get older and wiser, you will figure that out too.
AND there IS humour in everything too. Ya just have to be kinda warped to understand that also! Works for me.
