Prince George, B.C. - The Coroner’s inquest begins today into the police shooting death of Donald Dwayne Lewis.
It has been nearly two years since the event in McLeese Lake. On August 13th, 2006, an RCMP officer attended to a complaint about a man camping on a road in the McLeese Lake area.
According to the police report issued   at the time of the incident, there was a violent struggle and the officer, fearing for his life, shot the victim.
The officer suffered a broken hand, was taken to the hospital treated and released.
The inquest is being held in Williams Lake, with Coroner Shane DeMeyer presiding.
The inquest cannot result in the laying of any blame, the coroner’s jury can only say if they believe the death to be the result of  a suicide, natural causes, accident, homicide or undetermined. The just can also make recommendations to prevent similar tragedies.
Two weeks have been set aside for this inquest.

What a waist of tax payers money. The police know what happened and why.
"The inquest cannot result in the laying of any blame, the coroner’s jury can only say if they believe the death to be the result of a suicide, natural causes, accident, homicide or undetermined."

If the jury says it believes the death was suicide - the blame falls on the dead person.

If the jury says it believes the death was
a natural cause - the blame falls on nature.

If the jury says it believes the death was
an accident - an accident is to blame.

If the jury says it believes the death was
a homicide - then another individual has to be blamed for it.

Only if the jury says that it cannot determine the cause no blame falls on anything or anybody.

One can predict that this will have to be the only possible verdict under the *no blame can result* scenario.
I agree completely diplomat!
I recently sat on the jury for a coroners inquest,(don't even get me started..) and I can honestly say,I was completely disgusted with the process, and justice was not served, in my opinion.
In the end,I could see no point to the proceedure, other than to say ok,we had an inquest, now everyone shut up and go away!
And I wasn't the only one by any means.
I fail to see what possible point there is to a scenario that states before it even starts, that "no blame can result".
