Prince George, B.C. – Darryl Walker, an activity worker from the B.C. Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, won the second ballot in the five-candidate contest for B.C.G.E.U President in Vancouver today. He will replace George Heyman who has now retired.
Walker has served as Vice President since 1999 and has a long history of activism in the union and the labour movement. Walker states, “my priorities include upcoming elections at the municipal and provincial levels, along with bargaining in 2010, when most BCGEU members will be negotiating new contracts.”
BCGEU members include those in the direct provincial public service, the broader public sector in health care, community social services, post secondary education and private sector. Ferry workers, brewery employees and staff at WorkSafeBC are also affiliated with the union.

It is fascinating in a gruesome fashion that there exists a band of people imbedded in society that can do things to people that would usually cause the government to declare war to protect the people. But it seems the war has been lost and we are held hostage by some very ruthless people. The BCGEU people have the power to hold our children hostage, molest the elderly, inflict pain by withholding surgery and cause anguish by stalling government services. Ruthless.
And just like the villagers in France during WW2, we are told that if we would just co-operate none of this needs to happen. Therefore any pain and suffering we endure from the BCGEU actions of their SS, is our own fault.
Cute.
