Prince George, B.C. – Darryl Walker, an activity worker from the B.C. Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, won the second ballot in the five-candidate contest for B.C.G.E.U President in Vancouver today.  He will replace George Heyman who has now retired.

Walker has served as Vice President since 1999 and has a long history of activism in the union and the labour movement. Walker states, “my priorities include upcoming elections at the municipal and provincial levels, along with bargaining in 2010, when most BCGEU members will be negotiating new contracts.”

BCGEU members include those in the direct provincial public service, the broader public sector in health care, community social services, post secondary education and private sector. Ferry workers, brewery employees and staff at WorkSafeBC are also affiliated with the union.

The BCGEU should never exist. When they withdraw service they put people lives at risk. And it's not like people have a choice because all the public services (except the brewery) are a monopoly.

It is fascinating in a gruesome fashion that there exists a band of people imbedded in society that can do things to people that would usually cause the government to declare war to protect the people. But it seems the war has been lost and we are held hostage by some very ruthless people. The BCGEU people have the power to hold our children hostage, molest the elderly, inflict pain by withholding surgery and cause anguish by stalling government services. Ruthless.

And just like the villagers in France during WW2, we are told that if we would just co-operate none of this needs to happen. Therefore any pain and suffering we endure from the BCGEU actions of their SS, is our own fault.

Cute.

That reminds me, George Heyman once called himself the President of BC.

Hmmm.
Essential services legislation make most of Yama's comments ridiculous.

His comment that the union puts people's lives at risk when services in health care are restricted is an interesting one. Does he also believe that the deliberate underfunding of health care by right wing governments (including Campbell's)in an attempt to force people over to private medicine also puts people's lives at risk? If not, why the difference?
Geez, Yamapoodondat for a minute or two I thought you were talking of the Chamber of Commerce or the Independant Business Association. They do the same thing by locking out employees.
Maybe Yama wants to all of us to return to the days where worker's weren't paid a living wage, no breaks, unsafe work conditions, no holidays, no sick leave no rights whatsoever for an employee. Quitting time was when your employer said it was and your pay was whatever the employer said it was regardless of how one performed or how many hours you worked. Our present government removed some key protections from the labour legislation so right now unions are an employees only safeguard. Get rid of unions indeed...that would not be a pretty future.
I wish Mr. Walker all the best as he is treading the same thankless path that most civic minded individuals find themselves on.
Yama must work for a union.. anyone who has the mentality like that working for a non union would have been sent packing.
Naw, I think Yama is not working union. He is too smart for that.

There was a time for unions, Unions don't create jobs, it prevents new jobs from appearing. Unions like to suffocate the owners from expanding and employing more people. They are too short sighted.
Got any numbers for your "THEORIES" He speaks.
if not for the unions we would still be working for peanuts our kids would be forced to work would not have the benefits we have today
just wish they would broaden their horizens If the unions were to disappear it would not take long and we would be back to that state
unions protect the weak and lazy and stiffle the the minds of people who have ambition....

how many people work for canfor and smoke weed everyday while they are on shift...but random drug tests are bad in the eyes of the union. wouldnt want to lose a union due
"how many people work for canfor and smoke weed everyday"

153 at last count in this part of the country .... 59% of them are in management ....

;-)
you have no idea the problem OWL...but then again once your mayor maybe you will open your eyes
WOW. downnotout...see how brainwashed you are by your union. you honestly think you would be working for peanuts if it wasnt for your union? do you still ride your bike with training wheels?!?!

AND BY THE WAY - YOU WOULDNT HAVE A JOB IF IT WASNT FOR YOUR EMPLOYER.

AND GOVSUX...HERE IS AN EXAMPLE. THE PROVINCE OF BC UNDER THE NDP GOVERNEMT...THAT REALLY SUCKED
I was in the BGGEU for 15 years what a complete joke- can you say sheep baa""""""""""""" Now in Industry making 3 or 5 times more - I know of anyone in Industry would works 35 hours- my new boss of 7 years stated what are you going to do for the rest of week = meaning the last 2/1/2 days of the week- we work a minimum of 11 hours a day get use to it. I work a minimum of 12- 14 hours a day a love it including Saturday. Cann't contact a Government employee Friday or Monday- flexed off- completely use less"""""""""""""" . The BCGEU needs to get with modern society.
Ya, I wish I could work 11-12 hours a day, 7 days a week , week in week out. I'm sure that would be a great way to watch my family grow. Your going to work, while life and the world passes you by. Get a hobbie. Your gonna die with money in the bank and all you'll remember is work.
WORK TO LIVE,........NOT LIVE TO WORK!!!

I don't know what you deal PGDEALER. But if you let all the union folk know what your sellin' I'm sure they'll be happy to avoid your product, unless its that evil weed Wavoes was ranting about. REEFER MADNESS!!!!!
