Gas Prices Up Again

Prince George, B.C. –   Gas prices are up again... a headline we seem to be getting used to.

When we woke up this morning gas was 133.9. The photo on the right (Opinion 250 Staff) indicates tonight gas is 139.9.

We can attribute the recent hike due to a bigger than expected drop in U.S. crude supplies. Oil prices have been pushed up by more than $5.00 per barrel.

The increase also comes from the weak U.S dollar which is not trading well against the Canadian Dollar, Euro and British Pound.

According to gasbuddy.com residents of Vancouver are paying as high as 148.9.

The prices are so damn high that a guy in Dawson Creek had to rob a bank. We assume it was to purchase fuel as he escaped on a bicycle.
Except it is the speculators who are driving the price up.
not the lack of crude or the supply there of..
And get prepared....Campbell's "GIFT" is comming real soo.
Why doesn't BC regulate the price of gas in the province like the maritimes can and do?
And more workers layed off and carbon tax coming and Terasen looking for more money, City looking for more money. It's all going to blow up pretty quick.
ITS TIME FER A REVOLUTION.
Hang onto your loot the banksters have total control of the governments, revolution just around the corner keep your powder dry and shine up the old musket , wait till you can see the whites of their eyes, don't waste a shot probabl y never get them all!
It is $1.469 on the Island.
Are lead bullets allowed these days, or do we have to import them from China?

;-)
I can't wait to get my $100.00 save the world cheque from the government...Oh I wonder where I'll spend it.
ahhh but dont forget its "The Greatest Place On Earth" This would be true if they actually had the decency to give you a reach around while you are getting screwed.
next Interest Rates will rise and your house
will be gone, the Bankers will own it all, you just pay your rent to them, Revolt when paying Taxes don't keep quit anymore, put your X in the wright place next time you Vote.
Actually, that little "carbon tax" that Campbell and his band of merry men will be instituting very soon seems to be getting pushed into the background by the economic issues happening here in the north.
We need to keep in mind that this is about the worst time possible for a so called "revenue neutral" money grab to kick in.
As an example,Terasen gas is looking for a rate increase,as I am sure we all expected.
And I am also sure they are not the only ones who will be hiking rates.
So where will that leave people next winter when the economy is still in the toilet?
How do our "elected leaders" justify higher heating costs for those unemployed or dealing with a reduced income?
At the same time,I seriously doubt we will see that much of a decline in gasoline prices between now and next winter,if ever.
Normally, once it goes up,it never comes back to anywhere near it was before the rise.
What kind of a government kicks those that elected them when they are down?
There are issues here in the north that lower mainlanders have no concept of.
In case the Campbell government never noticed,we do not have the infrastructure they have on the lower mainland, and we also have a major temerature issue that they don't.
And because of that,we WILL be susidizing those to the south.
And the government damn well knows that too.
I don't know what the solution is,but I do know we are far to complacent to this kind of abuse by the government we elected.
Any thoughts on how we deal with this?

Owl: "I don't know what the solution is,but I do know we are far too complacent to this kind of abuse by the government we elected.
Any thoughts on how we deal with this?"

Sure. Here is the obvious thought: Let's elect the NDP once again and practice some more of our endless complacency on them! At least we will have some new faces to look at while they line up at the proverbial trough!

Cheers!
lets try the STV. I know there are critics, but some very successful countries use this system. could it be any worse than what we've got? I don't support either of the parties.
Bang on Andy. This "carbon tax" is the most boneheaded policy at the worst possible time. I can't believe anybody would be so amazingly stupid to impliment this theoretical climate changing tax.
I have sent e-mails to all local MLA's. Not one response. Not even a token form e-mail. I sent a second to Bond who is my MLA, compaining of no response. Got a voice mail at least acknowledging me. I put up signs for these clowns every election. NO MORE! We need to hammer this government to reverse this crap. This has got my blood boiling like no other issue in my life. Any ideas on how to tackle this??
Actually diplomat,Owl didn't say that...I did.
And you are right, the NDP doesn't have ANY solutions either, as Carole James just proved with her rhetoric the other day!
This may be a leadership issue that the Liberals need to take serious look at very soon!

There is not much we can do but to complain. As Owl has already posted, there is really no alternative.......unless...
someone (not me, I have to work to pay the taxes!) starts a real people's party, you know, by the people, for the people kinda thing. The real challenge would be getting anyone in the 604 to vote for us, thus, we would be doomed to an ignominious second or third place. But by yeesus, it would be a fine 'ting would it not!
metalman.
Here is the solution, divide the province. If Quebec can try to leave Canada, we can leave BC. They just split the NorthWest terriorties, time for a new Province. The lower mainland has no idea what goes on up here, all this talk of revolution. Put your money where you mouth is, I will vote to leave BC.
NEWS FLASH!
They just announced on Global TV that the government watchdogs have uncovered a price fixing scheme in Quebec by retailers, and they have also said it may not be confined to just there.
(do you think?)
They are asking anyone who thinks that they may have reason to believe they know of some price fixing to report it.
The odd thing is that it related to the retailers sticking together and conspiring to keep the prices high, charging exactly the same price down to a 10th.of a cent.
How many times has that been questioned in Prince George and other places as well?
WOW!!!....ARE WE EVER SUPRISED!!!
How shocking eh?
This is so depressing...higher prices everywhere, yet are anyones' wages going up? Mine aren't. I don't know what we can do as citizens to stop this abuse by our gov't...I don't know, there is absolutely NO accoutability...they do as they please...when they please and we just seem so suck it up. I detest gov't...when it comes to election time...green party for me this time...I would love to see them win...I would laugh my ass off!
Your right robichal, and it's getting worse all the time.
When it comes to wages,we are losing ground fast!
At the rate the present provincial government is going, they are playing right into the hands of the opposition by pissing people off!
Once a government forgets who put them there and starts losing the ability to listen,it's only a matter of time.
I don't think the problem is a bad government issue half as much as it is a Gordon Campbell issue!
He is an arrogant, corporate ass kissing dictator, and it will catch up to him!
