Deliver us from evil......

Less than two weeks ago the BC Lions shuffled off to Winnipeg to meet a team on the verge of elimination from the CFL post season...a team that was considered by many to be quite harmless based on their record at that time....a game that could well have served as an end to the losing streak the Lions and their fans just wanted to go away.

Well, following that game, the persistent, annoying, loud thumping sounds coming from the left front tire of the Winnipeg Blue Bomber-mobile unfortunately was a Lion, and Bomber legend Milt Stegall had much to say about the outcome on that day.

As history now records, he embarrassed BC’s defense by trashing them with four TD’s, than just to add salt to the wounds he opened in the BC secondary, he did it all with relative ease......and look out ‘cause here they come again...

That said, this time the Leo’s may well be waiting for this Bomber team, with a renewed appreciation of what it takes to get the job done when they play the game for real.

Out of the ashes of the mental anguish ( “it hurt the way your tongue would hurt after you accidentally stapled it to the wall” ) experienced with the last second heroics of Anthony Calvillo and his Alouette victory last week, the Leos can legitimately take solace in the fact that they were
able to not only come back from what could have been a blow out, but in so doing took the number one team in the East down to the final play of the game before victory was ripped from their grasp.

On that afternoon the Lions looked deep into the eye of the tiger, and if one could erase their dismal performance of the first quarter (adversity is a great motivator), this team actually went toe to toe with the Als, and the final outcome could just as easily been in the Lion’s favor.

GOOD NEWS!!
Dave Dickenson is day to day and may be back at the helm against this Bombers team at BC Place Stadium.

If Dickenson is unable to suit up this week end, all is not lost.

After the resurgence and liberated potential of Casey Printer’s performance in Montreal, he has the look of a man reborn and barring injury (there’s that old “I” word again) will give the Lions reason for hope if he has to stand in for Mighty Dave.

Revenge is a dish best served cold!!

On an unrelated positive note:

DB Mark Washington is back to practicing with the team (following his broken collar bone suffered against Saskatchewan at BC Place) and hoping to be ready for the Edmonton game. In the last four outings opposing teams have been saturation bombing this inexperienced
secondary, punishing them at will.

While it’s accepted he’s not a water walker or a one man band, one should not underestimate the lasting value of his quality performances, influence, and the spiritual leadership he brings to the defensive side of the ball. His return is not only crucial to getting the Lions “D” back on the rails, but also to exponentially improve his team’s chances for success in the playoffs.
