Prince George, B.C. - The days of peace, quiet and crime free lifestyles no longer exist in the rural regions.

RCMP Constable Lesley Dix told the Regional District of Fraser Fort George that with rural residents likely to own atv’s, snow mobiles, dirt bikes, tractors,  the criminal element is often heading to the rural regions to go “shopping”.

“They know the homes are more isolated and that people may not have locked up the equipment, so we have to take steps to let criminals know we are watching, that this is our neighbourhood not yours!”

She says there is a triangle that can be collapsed, that triangle is one that provides ability, desire and opportunity. Remove any one of the three elements and the triangle collapses.

“We can do things like improve lighting, make sure doors are locked, or when a vehicle is spotted, one that doesn’t belong in the neighbourhood, residents can place a special tag on it to let criminals know, we’ve recorded the license plate and we saw you.

The Rural Crime watch program has been in place 1988, but was dormant for a time because of manpower issues, “Since we have been back working on it,” says Dix “ we know people are extremely pleased with the information they are getting at our rural crime watch meetings, and they are giving us more information which is leading to more charges.”

If your caught trespassing on private property the homeowner should have the right to blast their ass.
Of course in the Lieberal asskissing society of today the homeowner is not allowed to use force to protect their property.
Unless your invited on the property you have know bussines being there.
People work to hard to get stuff just to have some lowlife pricks come in to walk away with it.
Stay out of my driveway, or you better have a good excuse to be there. We and our nieghbors are always on the look out for those who don't belong. Recently we had some brain dead people throwing molotov cocktails at our mailboxes and a pump house. Real bright! Lucky for them they weren't caught.
I know it is illegal to protect your self, but people still do, especially people that live out of town. I some rural dwellers that you would not want to be caught alive on their property.

Remember, no one is going to report someone missing who is out sneeking around rural homes. "Yes police, well officer I'd like to report that my thief did not come home this morning. I think he was working the Beaverly area."
Dial .357

HeHe, good one Andy!!
stickers?? cool...can I play too :)
dead people, don't complain.
Go ahead, make my day.
...do ya feel lucky punk?
Pity the fool.
...I'll be back...
12 gauge, the first two are buckshot for close range. The second two are slugs for longer range in case the bandit survived the first round and is outrunning me.
I see dead people.
I agree that it can be foolhardy to be prowling around some rural homes. Perhaps mine is one of them. But where do the police get the idea they are "protecting" rural homes? I haven't seen any on my road for years, whilst trail bikes and unlicenced vehicles roar up and down regularly at high speed. Come on guys, just posting a press release is not going to do it. A little action is neccessary, too. Oops! Forgot there are no coffee shops out this way.
