Prince George, B.C. - Pine Centre Mall has seen quite a facelift in recent months.
Stores such as Sport Chek, Coles Books, and Kens Goldsmithing have recently undergone major construction moving locations.
Curtis MacLeod, Manager of Ken’s Goldsmithing, is very pleased with the new location “After 10 years our other store was getting a bit dated, we wanted to take the experience we gained over the years to implement some new ideas. We are able to be in the main entrance with some sunlight as well as be by Coles Books again which looks bright and new and brings a variety of different customers and ages to the mall.”
Sport Chek, which has moved from downstairs into the old Extra Foods location, increased their space by 10,000 square feet allowing them to bring in a larger line of merchandise and have a separate entrance from the mall which enables them to stay open until 9:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The store is only the second of its kind in Canada.
New additions that will open by the end of July include La Vie en Rose, Dynamite, Soft Moc and Caps.
Richard Nelson, General Manager Pine Centre Mall, says there willbe some other good news in the near future” We are continuing to grow, despite rising prices we have stores who still want to join us, I am booked from now until the end of September with construction details.”
Pine Centre Mall is currently in discussions with the City of Prince George to purchase 10 acres of land off the golf course which enables the mall to house more stores. Nelson says the deal has not been confirmed yet until they know more details from the City. “We would like to know some of the other players in the land development in order to ensure it fits the vision of Pine Centre.”
While there are three different land development proposals for the Prince George Golf and Curling Club lands, all three call for land to be set aside for the Pine Centre Mall, all three call for the Roll-a- Dome to be replaced with a hotel.
The plans favour the Mall as a destination shopping centre as the plan would see the Pine Centre Mall positioned between two new hotels (the Sandman is currently under construction) and within easy walking distance of the Treasure Cove and the Four Points Sheraton.
