Prince George, B.C. - The Ruby Creek mine, about 24 km north east of Atlin has been  issued a Mines Act permit.  The permit allows Adanac Moly Corporation to develop a $414-million molybdenum mine.

The Ruby Creek mine project is  expected to create about 550 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 250 direct jobs during the operations phase.

The project includes an open pit mine that would operate at 20,000 tonnes per day.  Construction is expected to take approximately two years and, once in production, the mine is expected to operate for more than 20 years.

"Since the introduction of Schedule Two of mining effluent regulations under the Fisheries Act, in 2002, 16 lakes have been proposed for reclassification as tailings dumps.
Four of the 16 are already being used as dumps — all in Newfoundland. Two of those are at the Duck Pond Mine and the other two are older mines due to be brought under Schedule Two retroactively.

Only one of the 16 — Kemess North in B.C. — has been turned down. Eight are to be decided in the coming year.

B.C.:
Kemess North - Duncan Lake - REJECTED.
Kutcho Creek - Andrea Creek.
Ruby Creek - Ruby Creek watershed.
Prosperity - Fish Lake.
Red Chris.
Mount Milligan. "

-Maritimer just so you know im not posting this for or against your post.

Take milligan off that list.. If there was a thing called un-biased journalisim and the journalist got his/her facts straight then they would realize the milligan project is not using a lake or river. Lately the CBC is the last place to look for the facts..

If you want mining to stop then you need to quit being a consumer. And that pretty much sums it up to everyting you buy.. So quit consuming on a global scale to drive down the price of resources making it un vialble to mine then badaboom bada bing.. No more mines... Think about that next time you jump in your vehicle, buy a gold/diamond ring, fill up with gas, install copper wire in your house for power, use the latest tv's, and electronics with rare earth elements.. I dont need to go on here you guys get the gyst of what im getting at. Cheers!
Well said northman!
Milligan should NOT be on that list.
Nowhere does "maritmer" mention that MT.Milligan was aready permitted once under Placer Dome and two intensive enviromental studies have been done,if not more,as well extensive site prep to ensure things are done right.
Terrane Metals, who now own the mine property, have gone in and only improved on what had already been studied and done.It is an extremely well thought out and enviromentally sound project.
They are a straight up company with an exellent track record for honesty and enviromental concerns and in the mining industry, that is a rarity indeed.
MT.Milligan will NOT be using a lake or a river, and do not deserve to be lumped in with any company that does!
That's just spin by those who hate mining of any kind and we will always have them.
If the Mt.Milligan mine, which would be a boon to the Fort.St.James and MacKenzie areas and even the north in general,is NOT permitted, the reasons would be purely political and nothing more.
Whether or not people who needs jobs and a shot to their local economies are willing to tolerate that kind of crap from the government, remains to be seen.
Mining IS a viable industry, and to treat it as anything less is a huge economic mistake.
Todays technology combined with the proper monitoring, make many mining proposals worth looking at with the right attitude.

I have fished at Fish lake for over 25 years. It is one of my favorite places in the country. It is secluded, quiet and just loaded with Rainbow trout. You can easily catch and release 150 1/2-3/4 pound rainbow a day. It is the best untouched fishing lake I have ever been to anywhere. The surounding scenery is 2nd to nothing, Bald Eagles and Osprey are plentyful there and you can watch them dive and catch fish all day long. The quiet is awesome. What a sad day for me to hear they/we are going to poison this beautiful little lake forever. No amount of money in the world can replace this lake. All in the name of progress.
Well said northman. There is no lake at Mt Milligan, infact in essence it is their fifteen year plan is to make a new lake.

Well said, Andy, we might as well stop consuming anything if we want to stop every mine out there.

On the otherside. Kemess North deserved to be turned down in this day and age. They put together a very lazy proposal. You don't have to destroy a lake to mine. You just have to spend the money to find a way. Kemess wanted to take the cheap way.
Question

(off Topic)
Sportsman...
Catch and release....How many fish die because of this practice?

I keep everything that is legal.
I stop at my limit or at times below my limit.
correct there is no lake currently at Mt. Milligan so it should not be on the list but i believe they will make a lake when finished and whn they do the reclaim when the ore body runs out in 15-17 years as a fisherman look forward to the lake

as for fish lake i have not read the proposal for awhile but i believe it was not "poison" the lake but to use the fish stock currently in the lake to stock either 3 or 4 (i don't remember the number) barren lakes in the area then --here is when people get wound up-- drain the lake, mine out the ore body(25-30 years) then bring the lake back & restock with the original fish stock

in the end there is a gain of 3 or 4 new fishing lakes and employee a bunch of people for between 2 & 3 decades

as for Kemess North altough i don't believe it was handled very well i do believe it will go ahead robally with a different owner & a slightly different plan just because of metal prices and the size of the ore body as well as the infrastructure in place already

i also agree that minng is a viable industry and will prosper and help drive the economic engine of the norh & the rest or this provnce
pardon my spelling & ommission of letters not on my regular computer
Getajob, you can't be much of a fisherman, 99% of the fish I catch I let go so someone else can have a good day of fishing. If you use single barbless hooks and a good quality net instead of barbed trebble hooks and a cheap net very very few die.
If everyone kept their limits there won't be many fish left for anyone. And what do you do with the illegal fish? You must try and let them go, yes? or do they go home anyways under the seat of your boat?
Concervation!
Good news for Ruby Creek mine!

Guess I need to brush up on my mining knowledge...draining a lake and relocating the fish?! Wow...thought there was other technology available, but if under the lake I guess this is the best way! Who knew? Not me lol. See it is those kinds of mining companies I like because they show respect and care for the environmental impact that does occur in mining. Tailings in lakes is so very very wrong.
Northman... nonsense. Anything can be done in a logical, well thought out manner, something humans refuse to pursue. This whole mining thing is done for one purpose and only one purpose: greed. Do it the right way and it would lead to smaller profits and that, to money worshippers, is just not done. We live (Canada, America, UK, etc) in a corporate, fascistic state where the ONLY issue has become who makes the money and therefore controls government and society. Harper is simply doing the bidding of his true God: Gold. These money worshippers still, amazingly, have most of the population completely conned with the "jobs, jobs, jobs..." con job. Lakes don't have to be destroyed and if you believe they do then they have you right where they want you.
Sportsman
Why should i not catch my limit once a year?
It was a question not a statement....relax
So what is Very Very few? i kill all and eat all so whom is the waster here?
"fascistic" - extreme nationalistic beliefs, strict obedience to a leader of a state, intolerant of other views or behaviour.

What country was kevin1006 talking about??? Anybody know what kevy is talking about?
Nope
Which Fish Lake are we talking about? Is it the one in the East Kootenay at the head waters of Lussier Creek? Used to hike ito it many years ago.

Cheers
