VICTORIA - Deputy Premier and Education Minister Shirley Bond is in China this week, to build relationships with Chinese education officials and share best practices in education.
Bond aims to support existing off-shore schools, attract more international students to B.C., and promote B.C. as a choice destination for business, investment, trade and tourism.
During her week in China, Minister Bond plans to:
* Officially opening Education Days at the B.C. Canada Pavilion at the site of the 2008 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
* Breaking ground for a second Dalian/Jinshitan high school campus after celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Dalian Maple Leaf International School - B.C.'s first and biggest off-shore program.
* Speaking to groups interested in B.C. business, trade and investment opportunities, K-12 students set to study abroad in British Columbia and B.C. alumni, living and working in China, and acting as ambassadors for British Columbia.
The delegation will also look to encourage increased business, investment and trade between B.C. and China and attract skilled labourers to B.C..
