At Hiway 16 and Ferry Avenue, as well as Vance and Hwy 16, I have personally waited through many a green light while freightliners ran the red lights at these intersections. They are just going too fast and it's almost like they don't think they have to stop because if they do crash they are safe in their big rigs. It is insane and there really should be something done about it. How do these driver's get their licenses? How do they keep them? And bologne on just trying to make a living, you can't kill people to do that, it's supposed to be against the law. And believe me, if it weren't for people sitting through the green lights waiting for the red light runners, there would be a lot more people being injured and killed at traffic lights. It is not just the truckers running the red lights either, just go to Fifth and the Bypass on any given morning and watch the red light runners there! It is absolutely astounding, I have seen up to 5 cars go through the left turn light AFTER the straight through light has turned green. There otta be someone standing at the lights with a basket of rotten eggs, and if you run a red light, you get an egg on your car.
It certainly is infuriating to see people ignore the rules of traffic. However, this is one case where an argument is most definitely not the best approach. I remember many years ago taking a defensive driving course in Manitoba (too many speeding tickets), and one of the most basic rules of defensive driving is avoidance. Don't be there when a road hog is using the road. You may have all the right of way in the world, but a crash with a road hog can kill you. What good are road rights then? Keep away and let them go. If they are really bad, call the police, but get out of the way.
