Prince George, B.C. – This is not really a long weekend.
The July 1st Holiday falls on Tuesday and that is the stat. Some people have arranged to have Monday off making it an extra long weekend.
 
Here is the skinny on what is or isn’t open:
 
Monday: Pretty much business as usual. All civic, provincial and federal offices are open. Transit service is normal. Mail delivery and collection will be as usual. Banks that are normally open on Monday are open.
Tuesday July 1st
  • No Transit service.
  • Canada Post main facilities are closed there will be no mail pick up or delivery. The postal outlets will set their own hours, so you might want to check with them. 
  • City Hall is closed.
  • Provincial and Federal offices are closed.
  • Banks are closed but their ATM access will be available
  • Pine Centre Mall is open, and has special Canada Day sidewalk sale
  • Costco is closed
  • All other major retail outlets open
 
The main Canada Day Celebrations set for Fort George Park will get underway with official opening ceremonies at the Bandshell at noon.   Gates to the park open at 11:00 a.m.   
 
The Canada Day celebrations continue with an opportunity to take part in carving the Spirit Pole at 12:30, (see Spirit Pole Comes to Region)   the live entertainment starts at 1:00. 
 
There will be ethnic foods and activities for the kids, and of course it’s all free. Fort George Park events wrap up at 7:00.
 
The day closes with fireworks taking place at Exhibition Park at 11:00

Well its not all free. The food costs money but thats why we go there every year to try a couple of the different ethnic foods.
I think this yesar the food is free from the looks of it .....

Spirit Bear, Spirit Pole, Spirit Square, Xmas Spirit, ... far too much alcohol these days ....
So... what are you saying ??

There might be pickled owl at one of the food booths ??

Might be yummy... certainly more tasty than roast rabbitt !!
