Prince George, B.C. - Nearly 200  soil scientists from all over Canada will be at UNBC this week to take part in the  Canadian Society of Soil Science's annual conference.

The event starts on Sunday and with 180 experts from across the country taking part it will be one of the largest national conferences ever held at UNBC.

The event will feature 120 presentations and about 70 posters displays.

Keynote speakers will discuss land reclamation, the roles of snow and soils in local/global climate change, and the vital role played by soils for sustainable development in a world facing significant population growth.

UNBC researchers will present information they have gathered on a variety of subjects including the warming of Arctic soils, the impacts of wildfires and clear-cutting on soil productivity, the effects of biomass removal on soil productivity,  and forest soils on glaciers.

Will the ALR decision be made at that conference??

The decision has been made, so what I'd be watching for is the timing and the venue.

It is the usual course for these bad news items like the ALR, to get dropped when no one is watching, or when there is some sort of religious furror going on where the news is delivered by pious noses pointed high, while waving around some higher ideals for the great unwashed. That way we are can grumble, but won't push it and be a spoil sport for the "smart people" that know what's best for us!

I got clay under and around my house and so too have my neighbours. Maybe I should apply to the ALR to go into the pottery business. Makes as much sense. Dirt bureaucrats? What next?
Say wha-? Harbinger & Yama...ALR has nothing to do with this.

UNBC offers a very strong program in soil science. I expect this conference will be enlightening to those involved. Congratulations to UNBC! I would like to see this further strengthen the related BSc programming :)
Oh, that's right! Farmers use dirt, and this conference is about soil. Silly me. The ALR is protecting dirt, not soil I assume, therefore cork would be right as usual. Sorry 'bout that.
