Prince George, B.C. -  Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Kevin Falcon announced the Province is investing $4.5 million to four-lane a portion of the Cariboo Connector and is providing funding for a new transit service.

Falcon says The Cariboo Connector is a safe and efficient link between northern and southern communities “Four-laning this part of Highway 97 will allow for better passing opportunities and increase capacity on the highway.”

The project will widen 1.8 km of Highway 97 from the Likely Road intersection to the boundary at the Williams Lake Indian Reserve. The project will also provide for safer access on and off the highway at the Likely Road intersection by adding longer left-turn lanes and right-turn lanes with raised islands.

The Cariboo Connector is a long-term strategy to four-lane the highway between Cache Creek and Prince George, supporting economic growth and improving B.C.’s competitiveness by moving goods and people more safely and efficiently.

Falcon also announced $173,000 of improvements for transit service in the Cariboo Regional District.

Williams Lake Transit is starting a new route in the district this September, serving areas such as 150 Mile House, Dog Creek and Commodore Crescent. The Province will commit $113,000 towards the purchase of the new bus and contribute $60,000 annually to support the costs of operating the new route.

Wow...this is starting to seem like the old Social Credit government right before an election!
You could always tell there was an election coming by the amount of paving going on!
;-)
The cariboo connector is a
long term strategy to four lane bla bla bla.... 880 km divided by 1.8 km...Hmmmmm 488 years. Sure is long term.
Cmon now sceptics, one mega project at a time. Coquihalla, Island Highway, Sea 2 Sky, Caribou Connector. After the resourcses being used on the Sea 2 Sky come free we really might see some work on the Caribou connector.

And thank god. I love the drive to Kamloops and then I want to drive off a cliff was I turn west and start towards Cache Creek and the 550kms remaining of slow one lane traffic.
Whooee, they kin git ta town so much faster on a four laner!
metalman.

Any one else see the irony in this? I thought they wanted us out of our vehicles?! More capacity?...
....more passing opportunities? I got a giggle out of this..wonder if the people who can't merge understand the passing lane concept...
This shows the lie of the BC Liberals. They use closer to pass the "Carbon" Tax then they continue to expand the highway system ensuring we will use more gas, produce more greenhouse gases and pay more carbon tax. Campbell's green ideas are just green washing.
The Caribou connector was the last election promise - it will take alot of $100s to make a four-lane highway - why bother now - the province is going green - only need one lane for petal bikes and horses.
Sure hope they are around to finish this highway!
A bad day in Victoria for them today re:Basi/Virk B.C.Rail fiasco.
Let the cookie crumble!
They might need the carbon tax for money far bail!
I think that would be a one lane addition as there is a passing lane to the south. How about 4 laning through Stone Creek where there are hills on both sides. Nope can't do that might have to get a new CN (BCR) crossing and a new bridge.
Where are Phil Gaglardi, Ben Hinter and God???

Those three used to look after our highways.

Now we have Mickey Mouse pulling the strings.
Ooopsh, I made a mistake: Hinter should read Ginter, fcol.
The brewery guy.

Good point HD!
I remember them so well.
Too bad Ben Ginter couldn't build a road to save his life!
But at least when he started a job,he finished it!(sort of)
"Campbell's green ideas are just green washing."

D*mned if you don't, d*mned if you do if you are a Liberal.

People will always insist on having the freedom of personal transportation.

The new breed of vehicles (electric powered, hydrogen powered, hybrids etc) still needs safe highways - might as well keep building highways because we won't be using only high speed comfortable electric powered commuter trains because we ain't got any!

Not yet, anyways.

How do electric powered vehicles work in minus 30 weather??
Oh, wait.....we have global warming!
Never mind.
