Prince George, B.C. - Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Kevin Falcon announced the Province is investing $4.5 million to four-lane a portion of the Cariboo Connector and is providing funding for a new transit service.
Falcon says The Cariboo Connector is a safe and efficient link between northern and southern communities “Four-laning this part of Highway 97 will allow for better passing opportunities and increase capacity on the highway.”
The project will widen 1.8 km of Highway 97 from the Likely Road intersection to the boundary at the Williams Lake Indian Reserve. The project will also provide for safer access on and off the highway at the Likely Road intersection by adding longer left-turn lanes and right-turn lanes with raised islands.
The Cariboo Connector is a long-term strategy to four-lane the highway between Cache Creek and Prince George, supporting economic growth and improving B.C.’s competitiveness by moving goods and people more safely and efficiently.
Falcon also announced $173,000 of improvements for transit service in the Cariboo Regional District.
Williams Lake Transit is starting a new route in the district this September, serving areas such as 150 Mile House, Dog Creek and Commodore Crescent. The Province will commit $113,000 towards the purchase of the new bus and contribute $60,000 annually to support the costs of operating the new route.
