Prince George – GoPG (www.GoPG.ca)  is ecstatic about the inquiries coming from Seattle to tour Prince George and Northern B.C.

GoPG launched a marketing strategy in May with Horizon Air Prince George to create awareness of the recreation opportunities in Prince George to the Pacific Northwest market.

Michelle Clarke, Tourism Manager, says they are getting inquiries for basic information, outdoor activities and general trip planning questions “There were 24,242 hits on the web site in May and 24,055 in June, and 788 entries have been received for the contest promotion. From this we have received approximately 60 direct phone calls. We are thrilled with the response to our advertising strategy – mailing out over 400 packages to visitors interested in learning more about Prince George.”

The tourism program is now moving into the second phase of implementation.

Phase Two will build on the awareness already established but expand into travel trade and media relationships, trade shows and building detailed itineraries for visitors. New in-bound target audiences include the guide and outfitting sector. Non-traditional media outlets such as Facebook and YouTube will be also be incorporated.

We believe that building a sustainable tourism economy is key to the region’s overall economic diversification.”

It is possible as a web site manager to know where those hits are coming from. It would be interesting to see how many hits actually came from the Seattle region versus all the locals just checking out the web site.
YouTube has those ninnies going down the cutbanks on a wheeled couch! Now that's a tourist draw if I ever seen one.
If I had a whole pile of money I'd buy a fleet of motor homes and rent them out to the tourists for North Rockey - Highway #37 circle tours. You could get whole plane loads of people flying in and spreading out like ants everywhere spending their money....
If I had a whole pile of money I'd think about moving away. But I can't, so I won't. I'd miss the fact that this is an ideal town for me. Small enough to be known and big enough so everyone doesn't know yer business. 85 to 100 thousand. Kelowna is just a small Vancouver. Anywhere north is cowboy town. I think I will stay right here and breath in my share of crappy air, and be content.
