Highway 97 is a killer highway.
We were promised four laning to make it a better and safe road.
This road is a disgrace for being the major connector in this province.
The combination of driving long hours in the summer with the sun blasting in your face leads many to get drowsy on the road...........If there was no alcohol involved I'll bet my next paycheque it was due to fatigue and speed.

Condolences to all effected by this tragedy.
Usually someone wasn't paying attention.
It's my understanding that this happened early in the morning, Imorg.
Crossng the median ... almost everywhere these days on 97 both the median and the shoulder edge have a rumble strip so that one knows when they have crossed the centre line.

There are many reasons that could have happened just as another vehicle was approaching so that there was not enough time to get back accross the median.

Tire blew - rare these days.
Putting a cd in ....
Answering a cell phone ....
Pet jumped on one's lap ....
lighting a cigarette .....
swatting a mosquito in the car .....
heated discussion with the passenger ....
joking around with a passenger .....
few too many early morning drinks ....
too much dope .....
committing suicide ......

many, many more possibilities .....

So, we got to work with the laws of probability ......

I assume that the forensics on such accident investigations are not that detailed because it will often be impossible to know what actually triggered the chain of events other than alcohol, speed, drugs, no seatbelt, etc. contributed to the accident.

The only time one has a chance of getting it reasonably right is when there is a surviving occupant who was vigilant and observed the triggering cause of the accident and is willing to talk about it honestly.
I doubt it owl. Most survivors won't have a recollection of the accident. The stress of it all..the bad ones...The human body/mind would traumatize too much with the memory. Sort of a defense mechanism for the human body and the mind.

If the accident occurred at 8 AM then it is possible that the glare of the morning sun had something to do with it...

It will come out in the traffic accident reconstructionalist's report.
I heard other details about this accident from friends nearby the scene, and they were horrible. To assume, as Owl does, that the cause was alcohol, drugs, speed, suicide or negligence, before we actually know what happened, is incredibly disrespectful. The victims' friends and families might be reading this to get more information. How do you think they feel reading your ugly, cynical post? Instead of assuming the worst about your fellow citizens and then spewing your invective, why not simply pass on your condolences and leave it at that??
shockjockey,

I think you should read owls comments again, he did NOT suggest the accident was caused by alcohol, drugs, speed or suicide. He suggested, quote:

"I assume that the forensics on such accident investigations are NOT THAT DETAILED because it will be IMPOSSIBLE to know what actually triggered the chain of events other than ALCOHOL, SPEED, DRUGS, NO SEATBELT, etc., contributed to the accident."

My condolences to the family's and friends affected by this tragedy
Well, it was a bad accident and if they would improve our highways this might not have happened the way it did.
There are less deadly accidents on four lane highways.

You know what I really hate on this road?
The empty flatdeck trucks returning from Vancouver.
They do well over 120km/hour and tailgate everybody right through the Fraser Canyon.

Another bad bunch are the red lumber trucks with the blue tarps. They think they are on a race track.
Two of them flipped over south of Williams Lake recently.

And don't get me going on open pipes on Harleys!
I HATE them.
I am just surprised that a Honda Accord can cause enough damage to a Chev truck injuring it's driver. That must have been because of the speed one travels on the highways. I always felt safer in a truck than a car. Hmm..I have learned something I suppose.

Perhaps shockedjockey would be kind enough to share the other details? Must have been an ugly collision to have that many deaths and serious injury.
Improving the highways doesn't improve drivers' abilities. Defensive driving on the other hand, does help avoid collisions.
Yes, you are right, but at least it helps some, Applecork.
"They do well over 120km/hour and tailgate everybody right through the Fraser Canyon."

I have never seen one of those pulled over by the cops and getting a ticket, although passengers cars don't seem to be enjoying that kind of extraordinary luck to me, bordering on immunity.

Strange. One of those flatdecks passed me going more than 120km/h and broke my windshield with flying rocks...kings of the road I call them.

correction: "...although passengers cars don't seem to be enjoying what looks like some kind of extraordinary luck to me, bordering on immunity."
Nothing to do with the accident, my condolenses to the families and friends involved. I have to comment as well about the some of the so called proffensional truck drivers out there that have no respect for other drivers on the road. Saturday we drove our classic to Dawson Creek for a show and shine, we were headed north and just before Bear Lake driving a tad over the speed limit when a low bed passes us on a double solid line bouncing over railroad tracks dumping rocks and gravel off the lowbed. Real nice guy! What an as****e. Chipped paint and a rock in the windshield! Thanks!
Thats an insecure load Acrider, get their name and # and file a claim.

Owl, those rumble strips are not in passing areas.
Just wanted to say thank you to the people who realize friends and family of the victims may be on here reading. And also to say how disrespectful it is to assume how this accident happened especially when you didnt know her. No one is in the right place to assume because you werent there in either of the vehiles..
