Synovate To Close, 90 Jobs Lost

Prince George, B.C. – Before the year is out, another 90 jobs in Prince George will be lost.
Call centre, “Synovate” is planning to shut its doors by mid December, throwing some 90 employees out of work.
This brings to three the number of call centres which have opened, and closed in Prince George. The first was LiveBridge on 2nd Avenue. The space it occupied has since been filled by ACS which offers customer service. OSI Recovery Solutions moved into the 3rd Avenue half of the old Kressge building on Third, while Synovate was set up in the portion which backed on to 4th Avenue. OSI closed its doors a little over a year ago.
Although the head office is not yet stating any full reason for the closure, the fact the Canadian dollar is so close to the U.S. dollar would make the operation on this side of the border a little less profitable than it had been. The Chicago office also indicates the company is no longer growing North American operations.
The employees,  have all been given 20 weeks notice of the closure. Mayor Colin Kinsley is disappointed in the company’s decision “Certainly this is not good news”.

So I wonder if the building owners got their money for renovations out. I recall it was a VERY low rent. I also thought that the City had made some guarantees, but maybe that was just for a transition period.
Good point owl. O250 - please do follow up on the guarantees / incentives Offet offered.
I have mixed views on this...on the one hand, I feel for the employees...on the other, I rejoice...fewer interruptions during dinner..lol..ok..well one can hope right?
Actually, this move has been in the works for some time. Singapore comes to mind.
tinyapplecork,

I don't know about this one, but not all call centres are the irritating ones that call you during dinner. Some of them are the useful ones that take your order or answer questions.
There is a great book to read called 'The World is Flat' by Thomas L. Friedman

Have a great week.
The world is flat. Not only that, but it is not as thick as many think. So those who live on the other side are much closer than many think.

I am familiar with this one. They call you during dinner.

That link takes those who choose to click on it to a critique of the Friedman book ....

I found it to be a wonderful tearing apart of stupid dialogue.

Now I know that Friedman followers must be the ones coming up with glib phrases like "smart growth". I was wondering who could be so smart to come up with such stupid phrases.
Good critique read Owl. I think the best sentence in the whole article was...

"God strike me dead if I'm joking about this."

Thank goodness, less calls during supper time!
Hey HD. It is "fewer" calls during supper time. Sounds better don't it?
