Prince George, B.C. – The  most popular  names for  newborns in  B.C. in 2015  haven’t been  finalized yet,  but if  trends  prove  accurate,  it could be  the year of the Olive.

Preliminary data shows the name Olivia was  in the lead throughout  the year for girls,   while  on the boy’s side,  Oliver was  at the top of the list,  however,  Vital Statistics B.C. won’t  make that official until all baby names have been registered and that  won’t  happen  till  later in the new year.

For now,  we can tell you that for 2014,  the name Olivia  did a “three-peat”  topping the list of most popular names for baby girls  for the third straight year.    As for boys, Ethan was the top name for boys , edging out 2013’s number
one name, Liam. Ethan has been in the number one or number two spot each year since 2002 in British Columbia.

Rounding out the top five names for girls born in the province in 2014 were Emma, Sophia, Emily and Chloe.

For baby boys, other names in the top five were Liam, Lucas, Oliver and Mason.

There were 44,500 babies born in B.C. in 2014, consisting of 22,957 boys and 21,543 girls.

Hopefully they give their kids uncommon middle names . Half the kids approaching their twenties are called Ashlee , Kimberley , tifany , Courtney . I look foreword to hearing half the mothers screaming Ethan in the next few years .
