Prince George, B.C. –The Prince George Community Foundation has awarded its  income distribution funds to a total of 14 groups.

At a special event at the Fraser Fort George Regional Museum ( Exploration Place), more than $42,421.00 was shared among the following:

·        the College of New Caledonia,
·        Cranbrook Hill Greenway,
·        Fraser Fort George Museum Society (Exploration Place),

Community Foundation President, Lorraine Grant said, “We are pleased to recognize that these organizations have made many contributions to our community and to also recognize that they receive tremendous support from their dedicated volunteers” said Community Foundation President Lorraine Grant. “Although the market has slipped recently, our investments have done well in the past fiscal year and we are happy to return the income earned on these funds to those in the community who are making a difference”

Grant also told those who attended the special event that the Community Foundation has contributed $5 grand from the proceeds of the Citizen of the Year event to an endowment fund in the name of the current Citizen of the Year, Darrell Hubbell.

But it wasn’t all about the Foundation “giving” as the Foundation  also was on the receiving end.  A cheque in the amount of $48,073.65 representing  proceeds from what was previously the CI Community Interest Society, was given to the Foundation. The CI Community Interest Society has been holding funds for more than 30 years, and with the society now winding down, it felt it was appropriate to turn the funds over to the Community Foundation and have the funds earmarked for the new 94XSafe Streets Fund. Income from this fund will go towards projects that are aimed at keeping the city streets safe for youth.
