Cougars Fall 3-1 On Teddy Toss Night
Wood Wheaton sends out a fleet of new Orlandos to pick up teddies and toques
Prince George, B.C. – When it appeared that the Vancouver Giants were headed for a shut-out over the Cougars at CN Centre tonight, hometown fans seized upon on-ice fireworks as the right time to let the (teddy) fur fly…
A fight broke out between the Cougars’ Jesse Forsberg and Vancouver’s Luke Fenske at 14:21 of the third period, with the Giants up 2-0. Forsberg received a rousing cheer from fans after checking another Giants player into the boards – Fenske was not as thrilled and jumped at Forsberg.
Fenske received two-minutes for instigating, five-minutes for fighting and a 10-minute game misconduct. Forsberg also left the ice to serve the five- and 10-minute penalties. (click on photo at right for video clip of toss, a linesman is with Forsberg on left, another with Fenske on right)
But the instigator penalty put the Cougars on the power-play and it was just 65-seconds later that brother, Alex Forsberg, would score the Cats’ first and only goal of the game. There were still a few of the 4696 fans in attendance who had saved their teddies for the occasion, prompting another minor clean-up of the ice.
Vancouver came back to score an empty-netter at 19:24 of the third to secure a 3-1 victory over Prince George. It was their 5th win over the Cats in six meetings.
Prince George netminder Drew Owsley was named the third star of the game, as the Giants outshot PG 35-23.
The Cats are in 9th place in the West with a recored of 12-20-0-and-2.

nothing like the good old days of Cougar Mayhem!!!
Just so I’m understanding this…. Cougar fans initially tossed their teddy bears onto to the ice because of a fight instead of a goal? Wow, doesn’t that make a person feel warm and fuzzy at Christmas?
