Prince George, B.C. –  With Christmas just days away, it’s unlikely the ‘tweens in your life need any distraction right now, but the Family YMCA is offering up some post-Christmas workshops to keep them occupied.

The ‘Kidproof: At Home Alone’ workshop is being offered on Wednesday, December 28th at the Massey Drive location.  Recreation Coordinator, Colleen Bush, says there will be two classes to choose from:  10am until 12noon, or 1pm until 3pm.  The cost is $30 for members or $35 for non-members.  The program prepares those between the ages of 8 and 12 years for this new responsibility.

The Family Y is also offering the ‘Kidproof Babysitter Training’ workshop for kids 11 to 14-years of age on Thursday, December 29th.  The program runs from 9am until 5pm, again at 2020 Massey Drive.  It costs $55 for members and $60 for non-members.

Anyone wanting more information can call Colleen Bush at 250-562-9341 x 266.

Just a thought about this course. Maybe the Y can also offer a course on how to “schoolproof” yer kid. It’s a simple as teaching him/her how to read just before they enter Grade One. Obviously some teachers have some shortcomings in this regard. So the kid can’t read at his/her proper level? Pass him/her anyways. Think of the kid’s self esteem first and foremost. Save a lot of time and effort organizing the “Raise a Reader” campaign every year.
