Two More Added to 2015 Games Management Team

Wednesday, December 21, 2011 @ 5:00 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Free Press is looking for a new Publisher, now that Phil Beaulieu has  joined the 2015 Canada Winter Games team as the Director of Sport and Venues for the event.

His joining the 2015 team is one of two management announcements from the 2015 Games Office this morning.

The other addition to the team is that of Lisa Shaw-MacLaren as the Manager of Sport and Venue Preparation.

She has extensive background in event logistics and recreational programs and has worked with various local, regional, provincial, and national sporting groups over her 23 year career with the City of Prince George. She was instrumental in the 2015 Canada Winter Games Bid, sat on the 2015 Canada Winter Games Bid Secretariat Committee and participated in the Canada Games Transfer of Knowledge Program.

As for Beaulieu, he was involved in previous events such as the Scott Tournament of Hearts, Labatt Brier, 1999 Pan Am Games, RBC Royal Bank Cup, Winnipeg Jets, and Manitoba Moose. He was the former General Manager of the CN Centre in Prince George and Assistant General Manager of the Keystone Centre in Winnipeg. He  also served as the site and venue manager for major touring events including U2, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Paul McCartney.

I am just wondering if these are paid positions? If so, isnt this a bit of overkill on the management end. I understand a board and all that but since when do we need so many managers. Is this going to turn into an Olympic crap show?

Good choices! Hopefully the City won’t spend too much of our taxpayers funds on “unpaid” positions.

Of course they’re paid postions. 7 senior managers for a project the size of the Canada Games is hardly overkill. Obviously you’ve never been involved in an event of this size.
I’d guess they hit 150-200 paid staff before it’s all said and done.
Throw in 5000 volunteers and you start to get an idea of how big Canada Games area.
Before you start slagging it educate yourself.

I think this is one of the best things that has happened to Prince George since the Cancer Clinic.

You are off the wall he spoke. You mean the Haldi recovery centre. Thank God you don’t run our tax dollars. No punt intended.

If only PG could be so lucky to attract such talent to positions like pot hole repair, snow removal, street sweeping, etc. More tax increases and coin down the drain on another unneeded project.
Continue on city hall, soon the taxpayer will be drained.
