Double Fatal Crash on 97 at Ahbau Creek

Thursday, December 29, 2011 @ 1:04 PM
Quesnel, B.C.- Quesnel RCMP have just responded to the scene of a two vehicle collision on Highway #97 at Ahbau Creek, between Prince George and Quesnel.  The incident has been confirmed to have taken the lives of two occupants of an SUV that collided with a commercial transport.  The crash was reported to the police at 10:08 am this morning

Highway #97 is currently closed to all traffic at the collision site, while emergency personnel contend with this difficult scene.  A Collision Reconstructionist is enroute from Prince George and will evaluate the collision scene upon his arrival.  The highway is  down to single lane alternating traffic and delays of  about 20 minutes.  According to DRIVEBC,  it is possible the highway will reopen fully at 7.

Details of the collision remain sketchy, as the police are in the infancy of this investigation.  Further details may be released, once they have been confirmed and investigators are able to release them.

Road conditions at the time of this crash have been described as poor.  While the weather itself is for the most part good, the temperature in this area has gone from above freezing to well below in a short period of time, leaving the roadway icy.

The investigation continues.

three horrible accidents in three days in the area. Travel safe everyone please

YRB needs to start sanding and quit trying to save a doller.

Anybody know where Ahbau Creek is? In winter I always find the hills on either side of the bridge a bit north of Quesnel scary, but that bridge is over the Cottonwood, I think.

1 k south of cinama

Ahbau Creek is about 15km north of the Cottonwood bridge

I agree with Doneright, YRB does a terrible job of looking after our highways. The logging roads to the North of Fort St. James and Burns Lake are much safer than the highways that YRB is responsible for.

Thanks.

it has always been that way with YRB. Wanna know the truth? Union employees who do only what is required and since they are the highest paid, there had to be cutbacks in services with less of these expensive employees leaving less to do the work. They are the highest paid grader and plow truck operators. I used to work there for years. Actually a good company but too expensive for the Gov’t to afford. Get less bang for your tax buck!

People need to slow down and drive to the conditions and not rely on YRB to compensate for bad driving practices.

Not trying to defend YRB in anyway but….

Apparently western2 is a disgruntled ex operator unable to do the job required and was let go because of that lack of skill.

Equipment operators are only permitted to do what the managers allow them to do. Road maintenance operators have been union for years and has no effect on the job they do.

For your info western2 the reason there are not many operators in the employ of YRB and other hwy maintenance contractors is due to the fact they keep quitting.

My mom and i were driving to price george this morning she saw the people on the road tried to stop swerved out of control and we hit the logging truck inbehind the freightways truck…everyone in our car was ok other than a few scrapes…i went to the hospital by ambulance with the driver of the freightways truck…he was shaken up but ok

I would like to see the speed limit slowed down on this section of highway, to many crashes, to many lives lost.
Other highways have slower speed limits in known dangerous area’s, or a lighted road condition warning sign, one that changes with the weather and road conditions, something needs to be done.

Its not the speed limit thats the problem.

Way to go there western2! Wow! trying to get political mileage from 2 peoples deaths!!! Man it must suck to be you.

A lot of YRB bashing for an accident that happened on the Quesnel side, which would be HMC would it not?
