Friday in Vancouver, the Prince George Cougars dropped a 5-1 score to the Vancouver Giants. The Cougars surrendered four goals in the second period and were unable to beat Adam Morrison more than once. Spencer Asuchak had the lone goal for Prince George.

It was a scoreless game after one. The Cougars were outshot 7-3 but were able to match Vancouver physically. Devon Fordyce looked confident stopping all seven shots he faced.

The Giants opened the scoring early in the second when Cain Franson snuck one past Devon Fordyce. Franson made a nice move to beat the defense before putting home his 15th of the season.

The Cougars responded six minutes later when Spencer Asuchak put home a nice pass from the newly acquired Daulton Siwak. Siwak found Asuchak back-door and fed him perfectly for his 10th goal of the season.

The Cougars were then given a lengthy five-on-three power play but were unable to get the puck past Adam Morrison. The Cougars hit a cross-bar, and then Spencer Asuchak was denied on a breakaway.

Vancouver took the lead back at 11:59 of the second period. Wes Vannieuwenhuizen pinched in from the left point and was able to fire a low shot past Devon Fordyce for his first ever WHL goal. Fordyce had been knocked out of position seconds before the shot came at him.

Late in the second Vancouver would add two more. Brett Kulak beat Fordyce with a knuckler from the high slot, and 39 seconds later Taylor Makin tipped home a Kulak point-shot to give the Giants a 4-1 lead.

That goal spelt the end for Devon Fordyce. Drew Owsley played the final 20 minutes and stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced. The lone goal scorer in the third period was Jordan Martinook.

The Cougars and Giants both finished the game zero-for-six on the power play. Vancouver ended up with a 33-18 edge in the shots department.

The Cougars return to action on New Years Day in Kamloops.

Yup, the Inglis trade paying dividends for the Cougars. I bet if they had Gretzky playing for them, they would trade him for Andrew Alberts

Hey now… don’t be mocking Andrew Alberts. He’s the best fence post the Canucks have had since Dana Murzyn.

:-D

It’s a shame Inglis was traded though.

Building for the future continues!
