Making Resolutions For Improved Health

Saturday, December 31, 2011 @ 3:51 AM
Prince George, B.C. – As the New Year approaches, many of us will be making resolutions and the Province wants to help you keep those that deal with improving your health.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Perry Kendall says even little changes in lifestyle can have a huge impact on our overall health “B.C. has programs and supports in place – from smoking cessation to healthy eating information – that will help people to achieve their health goals."

The Smoking Cessation Program links those with a Medical Services Plan to treatment of a prescription smoking cessation drug, or a a free 12 week supply of a nicotine replacement therapy product. This program was initially launched on September 30th, and more than 60 thousand smokers in B.C. have called 8-1-1 to register with HealthLink BC and try to kick the habit.

HealthLink expects call volumes at 8-1-1 may be high this weekend, and callers may have to wait on the line for service. HealthLink Staff will get to all calls as soon as possible.
