Cariboo Cougars Suffer Heartbreaker At Triple A Tournament

Saturday, December 31, 2011 @ 10:59 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars were knocked out of contention at the Mac’s AAA Midget Tournament in Clagary with last night’s 1-0 loss to the Calgary Northstars.

After a scoreless first period, the Northstars broke the deadlock early in the second, which is all the team needed to secure first place in the pool with a 4th straight win.  Cougars netminder David Readman played a strong game in net for the Cougars last night, but the loss dropped the team to 2-2 at the competition.

The Cats’ head coach, Trevor Sprague says, despite the disappointing loss, the coaching staff is extremely proud of the effort and determination shown by the entire roster over the course of the tournament.  He says their impressive performance in all four teams has the team believing it’s one of the elite midget teams in Canada and the players are looking forward to a great BCMML play-off run and, hopefully, a trip to the Telus Cup.

The Cariboo Cougars resume regular action next Saturday, when they host the Valley West Hawks in Kin I.
