PG Fire Rescue Dealing With Another Suspicious Fire

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 @ 1:11 AM

Prince George, B.C. –  For the second time in as many nights, Prince George Fire Rescue was called out to a blaze that has been deemed suspicious…

Crews from two halls responded to a reported shed fire in the 17-hundred block of 8th Avenue just after 10:30pm Monday evening.  Assistant Fire Chief Drew Larsen says a large, detached shed at the rear of the home was fully involved upon arrival.  Larsen says, "The fire was quickly attacked, however, due to the deep-seated fire in a large amount of stored material, it took some time to extinguish the fire and overhaul the hot spots."

He says radiant heat from the fire did damage the siding at the rear of the home, as well as a car in the nearby driveway.  Three people were in the home when the fire broke out, but they did not suffer any injuries.

The Assistant Fire Chief says, "Damage is estimated to be $25-thousand dollars.  This fire is suspicious in nature."

Meantime, Prince George Fire Rescue is still investigating a suspicious blaze that started Sunday evening in a storage locker on the ground floor of the three-storey Meadowbrook Apartments on 1st Avenue at Ospika Boulevard.  Heavy smoke forced the evacuation of 25 tenants from the building.  The City activated its Evacuation Support Program and, under the Provincial Emergency Program, placed them in temporary accomodations.

Fires both within the city, and the Regional District, have kept fire fighters extremely busy at the start of this new year.  The gymnasium at Ness Lake Bible Camp burned to the ground on New Year’s Eve.  In addition to the blaze at the apartment building Sunday evening, Prince George Fire Rescue was also called out to a trailer fire on Gunn Road.  And Monday afternoon, a home was completely destroyed by flames in Willow River.
