Police Urge Residents to Thief Proof Property

Friday, January 6, 2012 @ 11:24 AM
Prince George, B.C.- RCMP are asking residents, especially those who live in rural locales, to take extra precautions to ensure their property is protected from possible break in and theft.

Those precautions include making sure the driveway has been ploughed and that mail or newspapers are picked up so it isn’t obvious that  you are away.

The RCMP point to two incidents which took place over the Christmas holidays.

On December 23rd, the Prince George RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team located and arrested a local man after an incident involving a stolen vehicle.

It all started with a report to police of a suspicious vehicle in the Blackburn area. One of the people in that vehicle had been spotted peeking into a window of a home.   When confronted by a neighbor, he said he was looking for someone.

Turns out the vehicle ( a GMC truck) had been stolen from a Prince George residence nearly two weeks earlier. The same truck was spotted near Boeing Rd, and failed to stop when a police officer activated the emergency lights on an unmarked police vehicle. The truck headed east on Boeing Road, and swerved to avoid a spike belt that had been put in place.

The suspect was next spotted approaching the Yellowhead Bridge at what police believe to be excessive speeds. One police officer was forced to drive his vehicle off the road, out of fear that the suspect was going to ram him. This was the last time the suspect vehicle was seen during this incident.

Just before 5:00 PM the same day, a member of the Prince George RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team spotted the person they believe to have been behind the wheel of the stolen truck walking on Quince Street near 20th Avenue he was arrested without incident.

Jamie Hal Hammerstrom, a 33 year old Prince George resident, is now facing several charges including Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000, Flight From Police, and Breach of Recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 11th, 2011 in Prince George.

A 26 year old man from 150 Mile House, believed to have been a passenger in the vehicle has also been arrested, and was released on a Promise to Appear at a later date.

The second incident involved the theft of three high end mountain bikes from a property on Cranbrook Hill. The  residents were out of town at the time of the break in and the driveway had not been ploughed. A garage window had been pried open. At least three people were involved in this theft.
The bikes are described as:

·       Santa Cruz Blur, black, full suspension, Reba shocks, Sram grip shifters, and Kenda Nevegal tires
·       Giant Trance, black, full suspension, Fox shocks, Sram grip shifters, and Kenda Nevegal and Blue Groove tires
·       Trek Fuel 90, black with red Manitou shocks, full suspension, thumb shifters, Bontrager tires and components

If you have information on either of these incidents, you are asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS

why cant we just beat the crap out of these thiefs…oh yeah I will go to jail and this scum bag gets off…I am now starting to believe in the American gun laws where private citizens can bare arms…break into my house and threaten my family no court time and funeral homes get wealthy….I for one have no problem with helping out the local law as it seems they are having a hard time catching these crooks lately…just a thought and I know you all think the same…

Catch and Release in the justice isn’t going to work. Just like fishing ,each time you let one go they get harder to catch the next time. They also multiply.

I noticed a sticker on the front door of an RCMP member. Picture of a handgun and The words “this residence procted by firearms”.
I wonder if the firearm shown was locked in a safe with a triggerlock? I’ll let you know how that sign works out when I do it.

How about just removing all the bars from the cells and windows from the prison up the hill and sell them cheap to homeowners who are interested and a tad insecure? Should work.
