At Least 3 Months to Repair Damaged Apartment Block

Prince George, B.C.- It could be three months before residents of the Meadowbrook Apartments are allowed to return to their suites.
The three floor apartment block sustained substantial smoke damage as a result of a deliberately set fire on New Year’s day.
The insurance adjustor has notified the City that all 12 suites will have to be cleared out, meaning the 28 people who called the First Avenue apartment block home, will have to find somewhere else to live.
Many evacuees have been proactive and have already secured alternate housing or have initiated an application for housing through the Ministry of Social Development, BC Housing, PG Native Friendship Centre and or the local Red Cross.
The City of Prince George Emergency Social Services program supported by Emergency Measures BC has been extended until Tuesday, January 10, 2012.
City representatives and community partners will meet on Monday January 9, 2012 to further assess the status and needs of those impacted by the fire.

Let me guess. The apartments will rent for a bunch more than were before the fire once they are repaired. This is how owners get around allowable rent increases. It’s done all the time on the Lower Rainland.
Lets hope not…it must be horrible for those people to be looking for places in the middle of winter.
