Elderly Fire Victim’s Condition Remains Serious

Prince George, B.C. – Prince George RCMP say an elderly man injured in a house fire on Merritt Road early Saturday remains in serious condition at University Hospital.
The 85-year-old victim was pulled out of the house by firefighters who responded to the raging blaze in the 2700 block Merritt Road at about 3 Saturday morning. The man, the only person in the large house at the time, was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
Fire Rescue officials found evidence indicating something suspicious about the fire. Later in the morning police arrested and placed in custody a 49-year-old man associated to that residence. At this time no charges have been laid however an update is expected sometime today. The RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is investigating the fire.
