Terrace, B.C.- The search for a missing man east of Terrace may have come to a tragic conclusion.
RCMP say a couple snowshoeing with their dog near the village of Gitaus Sunday found a body buried in the snow. Investigators have not yet confirmed the identity of the victim.
Police, Terrace Search and Rescue, and volunteers had been combing the area near the village since Friday morning in the search for 21 year old Devin Charles Azak-Davis. He was last seen early New Years Day and was reported missing to police last Wednesday.
It’s been a tough start to the New Year for the Gitaus community with the body of a young man found Thursday at a home in the Village. RCMP say that death is suspicious and an autopsy is planned for today in Vancouver. Investigators hope to confirm the man’s identity and cause of death.
“These two events have been hard on the families and community” says RCMP Inspector Dana Hart. “The co-operation from volunteers and individuals is greatly appreciated.”
RCMP cannot say whether the missing persons case and the suspicious death are related.
