Prince George, B.C.- Premier Christy Clark has officially announced the permitting of the expansion of the Huckleberry mine, a permitting Opinion 250 told you about a week ago. (read previous story here)
The permit was approved about two years after the application was made and was “Just in time” says Huckleberry Mine’s President and CEO, Minoru Yamaguchi. “The Ministry staff worked very hard to make this happen” he adds.
The mine was slated for closure in 2014 and would have started winding down soon in preparation of that closure. The expansion will add another 7 years to the life of the mine providing job security for the 230 workers, and adding another 70 jobs.
In making the announcement at the Northern Resources forum, Premier Clark referred to Northern B.C. as being the heart beat of the Provincial economy, and that it will allow families to plan their futures with some certainty for the next 7 years.
The expansion will see production at Huckleberry mine over the next 9 years to be 424 million pounds of copper, with an average of 43.2 million pounds per year until 2019.

Christy Clark and her gang are masters at re-announcements.
“this will allow families to plan their futures with some certainty for the next 7 years.
7 years?…then what?
Northern B.C. is indeed the heartbeat of the provincial economy.
Yes Christy…it sure is…so act like it!
By the way Ms.Clark…do you know where John Rustad is?
He seems to be missing…has been for a long time, but you keep paying him anyway.
And do you have anything say about the blockade in Fort St.James that has everything shut down?
No?
That’s what I thought.
What a lot of pomp and ceremony for nothing!
What’s wrong with having job security for another seven years? The mining industry seldom goes on forever on any one mine. Deposits run out and a mine closes, or the markets fluctuate unpredictably.
People who work for mines know that.
The expansion will add another 7 years to the life of the mine providing job security for the 230 workers, and adding another 70 jobs.
She has nothing public to say about the blockade because the RCMP is negotiating with the ones who put it up. The RCMP doesn`t want any interference.
Adrian Dix, has he made any statements? Would he make one if he was premier…I sincerely doubt it.
One mine shuts down, move onto the next. Everyone in the industry knows that. Hopefully there is a next one if the economy does not implode and hollywood high resource users allow it.
Stay tuned for the re-re re-announcement!
The real Christy Clark, before surgery.

That’ what High Speed Universities is all about, to further the education of students. They need more than a high school degree today, they need at least 2 years of college, preferrably 4, and then we’re going to work with communities so they can grow economically and create more jobs for our young people
Can anyone tell me why so much education is now required. What have we gained with all this education except grow an educational industrial complex. We still have wars, we still have economic boom and bust, we still have environmental concerns. I have seen no smarter with all this education, but have seen more stupid.
