Hotel in Valemount Not Proven As Source Of Legionnaires Disease

Thursday, January 12, 2012 @ 2:06 PM
Valemount, B.C. – Dr William Osei Medical Health Officer with Northern Health says there is no reason to believe that more than one case of legionnaires disease has taken place in the Valemount area.
Dr Osei says the man arrived at the hotel on the 26th of December along with a friend, departing on the 28th.
The friend did not contract the disease. "We have been unable to talk to the man who has the disease" says Dr Osei , "that will take time but from what we were able to piece together, we cannot prove it was a hot tub or that it was a Valemount hotel."
When the matter was first reported, RCMP in Valemount went to every hotel asking them to shut down their hot tubs and spas until the source of the disease could be found. "Normally" said Dr Osei "this is a job for the health inspector, but we do appreciate their cooperation."
In conclusion he says "We believe this was an isolated case and the hotels in Valemount have all been inspected and all come up to standard."
