Prince George, B.C.- Eight groups will share in $141,615 dollars worth of funding from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency so they can take part in the environmental review of the proposed Site C dam project.
Peace River Environmental Society, Peace Valley Environmental Association, Kelly Lake Cree Nation, North Peace Rod and Gun Club, British Columbia Women’s Institute, Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, Pembina Institute for Appropriate Development and Gwen Johansson.
In a release issued today, the CEAA says the funding decisions were made by “ a committee independent of the review process” which assessed the applications and made the recommendations on funding awards.
The Site C dam proposal would see a third dam on the Peace River 1,050 metres long, 60 metres high, with an 1,100 megawatt generating station ( and associated structures) an 83 kilometre long reservoir, the realignment of four sections of highway 29 and two 77 kilometre transmission lines along the existing transmission line right of way which connects Site C to Peace Canyon.
Further information on the project, is available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca, reference # 11-05-63919.
