Charges Being Considered In Vehicle Rollover

Saturday, January 28, 2012 @ 4:09 PM

Car rests on its roof in meridian between lanes of Ospika Boulevard

Prince George, B.C. –  Prince George RCMP say three people are lucky to have escaped a single vehicle rollover on Ospika Boulevard this afternoon without injury…

But Staff-Sergeant Perry Smith says a charge of driving too fast for road conditions is being considered against the driver.

Staff-Sergeant Smith says information from the officer on the scene indicates the car hit the curb of the meridian and flipped, taking out a tree as it catapulted onto its roof.

The mishap occurred at approximately 1:30pm this afternoon and closed Ospika for a short time.

What would have to be involved if one were to wish to pull this stunt deliberately? Nice trick.

Not trying to be too picky, but a strip between highway lanes is usually called a median, not a meridian…;-)

I never understood where they got the “meridian” from either.I was taught meridians in geometry & geography using longitude.Medians are “something situated in the middle” a dividing strip, hence the use of boulevard.

A meridian (or line of longitude) is an imaginary line on the Earth’s surface from the North Pole to the South Pole that connects all locations along it with a given longitude.

You run into one of those imaginary lines and before you know it you are upside down!

OK…we get it yoos guyz are smart…you should be on jepidy, But I had to look it up and it is used as an adjective to splane the center of the roadway that contains a high point, to wit Meridian, A Median would Mean that said roadways were divided into 2 equal sides,Of which it is not hence the use of Meridian other that median..and that`s all I got to say about that.

Feel for the fatality. The tree. The driver thought there was an imaginary line and ended up flipped over.

How fast is too fast for road conditions? 10 kmh, 20, 30, 50? Who determines that? How do the RCMP know how fast the guy was going? Anything to save ICBC a nickle.

On another note what ever happened to the investigation of the RCMP member who ran into a Hydro pole on 1st Ave sometime back? What were the charges there? None most likely.

“median..and that`s all I got to say about that”

And let the Lawd be thanket for that! :-)

Acrider54 it is common sense and experience that should allow you to decide the speed to road conditions ratio as well as the posted speed signs, really a no brainer.
The nickle that ICB saves could of been one you used to buy your insurance so who would be saving in the end? Why should the rest of us pay for accidents caused by people not paying attention?
There are people in the police force who are trained to determin speed and causes of vehicle accidents given the proper information.
Hope this explains those questions.
Have a great day.

If you drive up the Hart and plan to make a left turn using a left turn lane, better be VERY cautious! The beginning of the curb to your left may be invisible as it is buried under snow! You hit it and bang, you are flipped upside down!

Very rarely is a left turn lane ever properly and carefully cleaned right up to the curb so that the curb is actually visible!

Dollars to donuts that this is what happened in above case!

Sorry, no explanation for thr double post!

acrider: “How fast is too fast for road conditions? 10 kmh, 20, 30, 50? Who determines that?”

I don’t know who determines that, but the car being upside down is a good indicator.

And as hadenuf said, I don’t really care to pay for the bad drivers out there. ICBC already makes the good drivers pay enough as it is. The bad drivers should really be paying more.

Still the question remains…What happened to the cop that pole?
About a month ago I was turning off Victoria at the police station, to watch a cop fishtailing up the street, almost sideways, foot still in it, until he saw me. A fine example, i thought.

This person obviously is not from PG.When I first moved here I hadn`t driven in winter weather for almost 13 years and figured out pretty quick how fast is too fast in certain conditions…I didn`t cost ICBC any moolahj though cause I was able to pull myself out of the ditch both time and no damage to my vehicle or any property…

The car was still there when I drove by a few hours ago.

For the life of me, I don’t know what someone could do to make a car end up upside down in the median like that. I would have liked to see that one actually happen.

Wrong wheel drive and ABS brakes weren’t a plus, were they? Air bag explode?
