Dawson Creek RCMP Investigating Sexual Assaults Involving Cab Drivers
Prince George, BC – Dawson Creek RCMP say they are investigating several allegations of sexual assault and forcible confinement involving one or more taxi drivers at a local company.
Staff Sergeant Milo MacDonald says RCMP received a complaint that a 13-year-old girl was allegedly lured into a taxi, with the promise of a free ride home. MacDonald say the victim alleges she was then locked inside the vehicle by the driver and sexually assaulted.
The complaint was received on January 25th, the suspect has yet to be positively identified.
The Staff-Sergeant says, "As part of this investigation, the Dawson Creek RCMP has identified several other victims of similar alleged incidents, which span back as far as October 2011 in Dawson Creek."
He says, in one case, the suspect has been identified and has been arrested for sexual assault and forcible confinement. Charges are pending against a 55-year-old male. As part of their investigation, RCMP have executed a search warrant at the office of the Golden Cab company in Dawson Creek and are in the process of interviewing additional witnesses.
"This is a priority investigation and we are dedicating the resources necessary, along with working with our colleagues in Alberta, including Grande Prairie," says MacDonald. "We ask the public to call us with any information they may have."
