RCMP say alcohol is believed to have been involved in a crash that saw a Honda Civic slam into a pick-up truck on the Stellaquo bridge, five-kilometres west of Fraser Lake.

The male driver of the car died at the scene.  Earlier reports indicate that, miraculously, the female driver of the pick-up appears to have escaped uninjured.

Officers from Burns Lake and Vanderhoof were called in to assist, as was a traffic collision expert from Prince George who spent the night at the site of the accident.  Initially the route was completely closed, but a detour for light vehicles went into effect overnight via Francis Lake Road to Glendanon, then Endako Mine Road.
