Mackenzie Twins Positively Identified in Tragic Fire

Friday, February 3, 2012 @ 2:48 PM
Prince George, B.C. – The B.C. Coroners Service has now positively identified the two young victims of Tuesday morning’s house fire in Mackenzie.

Following autopsies in Vancouver, the Coroners Service confirms that the two toddlers were Joseph and Gabrielle Fleury, twins who would have turned two years old next month.

Service spokesperson Barbara McClintock says the autopsy findings indicate that the cause of death of both children is consistant with the preliminary finding that they died as a result of the fire. Further testing, including toxicology tests, will be done as is the case in the death of anyone under the age of three years in BC.

Five people were in the house when the fire was reported just after 7:30 Tuesday morning.   The parents and a child escaped, but no one was able to reach the twins who were in a second-floor bedroom.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

My heart goes out to Rick and Lana in this very sad time in their life. As a Mackenzie resident, I am very happy to see the way this small town of ours has pulled together to help this family. I know that nothing we do will bring the children back, but, we can ease the financial burden and just be there with open arms and hearts. Mackenzie, and any one else, let’s be there for them.

Sad story, my deepest condolances.
