CILA Looks To Help Indirect Workers Displaced By Burns Lake Disaster

Sunday, February 5, 2012 @ 6:00 AM

Prince George, BC – The Central Interior Logging Association has canvassed its members throughout the region to compile an inventory of job openings it hopes may help some of the ‘indirect’ workers displaced by the devastating event at Babine Forest Products.

While efforts are underway on many fronts to help the millworkers directly impacted by last month’s fatal explosion and fire, CILA also set about helping the truckers, loggers and service providers to the mill who cut and delivered the timber, the welders, mechanics, tire repair shops, fuel distributors, ecetera.

In its weekly newsletter, CILA says, "It truly speaks to our worker and contractor shortage that the northern interior harvesting sector can totally absorb the contractors from Babine within 24-hours."

In fact, the association says there is more work thatn there are people, so the job openings list has been posted on CILA’s website at www.cila.ca

The PG whole log chipper up at Northwood just cut a shift because of a log shortage or inability to get enough logs into the log yard. Lots of beetle wood around Burns Lake. Factor in the extra distance to get the logs to market and there is no reason why any of them should be out of work logging salvage trees.
