Icy Streets Concern Police

Saturday, February 4, 2012 @ 10:24 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Prince George RCMP are advising motorists to take it easy on city streets today.

Some road surfaces are extremely slippery, causing concerns about the possibility of vehicular pile-ups.

Police attended a 2-car collision at Westwood and Ferry at 9:35 this morning. There were no serious injuries there but one police officer on scene said the road was so icy that he couldn’t walk on it.

Requests have been made to have that area sanded. Again, take it easy if driving around town this morning.

Not just the busy intersections, it’s the residential streets that just got plowed.
Extremely slippery. Can’t understand people driving through residential area at 60, with kids around.

Watch out for those meridians/medians also. the meridians are easy to see but the medians are invisible and can flip your vehicle on its roof…

A Zamboni would be good in getting rid of potholes. Red and blue lines optional.

Harbinger@Nature seems to be doing a fine job of polishing the ice on the roads by itself.

So the police are concerned about icy streets, eh?

I would have thought that should be a concern of the City roads crew and the Highways crew.

Police should be concerned about crime.

The way the city crews and highway crews do their jobs is a crime takin breaks every ten minutes when all they have to do all day is sit on their fat doughnut eating butts anyway…how do I get in that union??? I`m pretty healthy I can afford a few pounds.

Go apply Vulgar Sage you will fit right in.

What I find hilarious is the fact the City plowed my street the other day and it didn’t make any difference. I think they forgot how to get down to bare pavement.

Pretty sad when taxpayers have to rely on cops to get our streets sanded. Also wondering why some of the grader operators out there being payed by the taxpayer are plowing so many of our streets with their blade 6 feet from the curb?

“Extremely slippery. Can’t understand people driving through residential area at 60, with kids around.”

If it was only 60 on a clearly marked 50 residential street it wouldn’t be too bad!

Occasionally they slow down to 60, but when they are not texting it’s closer to 75!

Even the RCMP doesn’t go 50 in a 50 zone. It’s usually 60 to 65.

Bad example.

“Bad example”

Only to those that think its a problem.
Doing 60-65 in a 50 zone has been the standard for all eternity. It will not change so you may as well get used to it.

Eventually there will be a video camera on every street and corner. You will receive your tickets by email and will never have to go to court. Simplify the system. Trust me–it’s coming. Got a speeding ticket in Calgary fron a roadside camera up high on a power pole. They sent it to my address in PG. Nice clear picture of the front and rear of my car (I put them in my photo album for 2011.) 85 bucks, no points unless you dispute it and go to court.

Remember when Gordo said that BC and Alberta were going to streamline the interactions and the way things were handled between the two provinces? What they really meant was that they would make sure that any infraction in either Province would be dealt with ruthlessly

Have to agree with you, Dragonmaster! Still, for some of us it’s hard to remind oneself all the time (even though there are actually reasons for having certain rules and regulations) that they mean nothing because they are being ignored since the day they were enacted.

Why bother spending money on signs when they do nothing more than clutter up the scenery?
