PG RCMP Get The Collar On Crime In 2011
Prince George, BC – Last year ended without the city recording a murder – in stark contrast to the eight for Prince George and the surrounding rural area in 2010.
In fact, in a report to be presented to City Council tomorrow night by Superintendent Eric Stubbs, statistics compiled for 2011 show a marked improvement in all violent crimes over the previous year.
There was a 2.8-percent drop in calls-for-service to the local RCMP detachment – down from approximately 38-thousand to 37-thousand – and total ‘person offences’ dropped by 8.5-percent.
2010 | 2011 | % Change | |
Total Person offences | 2,160 | 1,977 | -8.5% |
Murder | 8 | 0 | -100.0% |
Sex Assault | 95 | 98 | 3.2% |
Assault w/weapon or CBH | 291 | 234 | -19.6% |
Assaults (common or trespass) | 819 | 808 | -1.3% |
Robbery | 87 | 68 | -21.8% |
Criminal Harassment | 108 | 55 | -49.1% |
At a news conference this past December to discuss the city’s ranking as the most dangerous community in the country by Maclean’s Magazine for the second straight year, Superintendent Stubbs had released a preliminary version of these positive results and said, at that time, it was not by chance, but the result of a hard work and focused policing.
At tomorrow night’s meeting with City Councillors, Stubbs will also be asking for input into the Detachment’s 2012 strategic planning process.

Awfully quiet in here. All the people that usually bitch about PG might want to take a break.
figures lie, and liars figure………..go figure eh!!!
It`s the toughonemy,no ones got any money so the crack dealers are robbing each other, hell I`m even thinking of hitting a crack house…who`s gonna tell the cops???
Nice to see the decreases. Now if we get the court system working, and get the new prisons built, along with mandatory sentencing, we should be able to decrease these number by another 30% or more.
***You cant do the crime if your doing the time***
Let’s see the stats for the last 10 years. Comparing the crime stats for the last 2 years does not give the whole picture. It just makes things look better in the short term and provides favourable press to the RCMP and city hall.
