Burns Lake Job Fair Well Attended
Prince George, B.C. – It is estimated that more than 300 people attended a jobs fair held in Burns Lake yesterday…
The Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation says all workers impacted by the destruction of the Babine Forest Products mill were contacted to participate and the fair, which featured 24 participant booths at Muriel Mould Elementary school, had maximum capacity attendance.
The fair was a collaborative effort involving the ministry, local MLA John Rustad, Burns Lake mayor and council, local First Nations chiefs, union leaders and industry representatives. Canfor and West Fraser conducted an inventory of job openings in their nearby operations in Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake and Houston and attended yesterday ready to take applications for approximately 110 positions.
"The people throughout the Burns Lake region are really showing how devoted they are to rebuilding this community," says Rustad. "It’s extremely encouraging to see everyone coming together to rebuild and give people job opportunities and hope in our future."
