Olympia, WA – Government officials from BC and Washington State gathered yesterday for what has become an annual meeting to advance mutual interests…
"Over the past six years, Washington and British Columbia have built a relationship that is truly unique in North America," says Premier Christy Clark. "The more we talk to each other, the more we recognize our goals are the same: safe communities, a clean environment and jobs to support families. And by working together, I’ve very pleased we’re able to agree on concrete specific actions to help us reach our goals and better serve our citizens."
Clark and Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire signed off on a series of agreements, as part of a joint 2012 Action Plan on Jobs. According to BC Government officials, key features of the plan include:
- specific actions to better align and maximize opportunities for energy efficiency, clean transportation, and low-carbon energy including natural gas
- developing a regional jobs and investment strategy to leverage ‘clean economy’ opportunities across West Coast jurisdictions
- specific measures to enhance regional transportation coordination – ranging from improved information-sharing and analysis to identifyig future border and highway infrastructure needs
The meeting also set priorities for environmental cooperation for the coming year, including preparation for the removal of Japan tsunami debris.

Wow, what brain storming. Wouldn’t you think that those items would be on the top of most politicle agendas. Glad they are all on the same page now.
Welcome to the world of politics. If there is nothing to say, they have to find somethng to say.
Also welcome to the world of media. If there is an event, they want some words. Any words.
Just think of what would happen if the politicians meeting would keep the whole thing private. The chit would hit the fan if someone were to find out. “what’s with the secret meeting”.
I think the final three items are also totally meaningless to me. No projections of what that might mean a year from now, 5 years from now. What is expected to change from what would have been had no agreements been signed.
Then, can we have some retrospective reports by government of any past agreements and whether they improved the situation they were intended to improve and how well did it work.
BTW, I wonder how that Hydrogen hightway thingy is going between California and BC? That would certainly fit under all three agreement categories.

Here is more from the Governor’s web site.
I love the stuff about border crossing security. Both the USA and Canada used to gloat about having the world’s longest undefended border. I grew up within 100 km of the USA/Canada border and we often went across for a weekend vacation, etc.
We drove up to the checkpoint, answered two questions and drove on. No identification required not much other data exchanged through cameras and computerized data aquisition.
Since then Europeans have taken down most of their border posts and one drives from country to country the same as we drive from province to province or state to state.
That business enterprise has been removed from the EU economy. It has expanded multiple increments in North America.
An interesting place, this political world of ours.
? so what did we decide on!will it help her get relected!Nope
I see the Governor is playing “my chair is bigger than your chair”. I think Gregoire has a good chance at re-election.
