Warning Light Diverts Charter Plane To YXS
Engineer exams left engine after warning light went on mid-flight photo submitted
Prince George, BC – Emergency Response crews at the airport were put on standby this morning, after a warning light forced a North Cariboo Air charter flight to divert to Prince George.
Airport Spokesperson, Robin Smith, says she received first notification that there was an emergency situation approaching at 9:16 this morning – YXS response crews were on standby, but not on the runway and the Dash 8 twin-engine charter with 36 people on-board landed without incident.
Despite some media reports, North Cariboo Air General Manager, Peter Scheiwiller says the plane did not land on a single engine. Scheiwiller says both engines were working, but the pilots had an abnormal indicator light go off on an oil gauge.
The plane had been flying from Vancouver to Fort Nelson when the warning light flashed. Scheiwiller says the pilots notified passengers the plane would divert to Prince George and it was an uneventful landing.
The company sent a replacement plane to fly the passengers onto Fort Nelson. It left YXS just before 2pm this afternoon. A company engineer is examining the Dash 8 and Scheiwiller says Transport Canada has been notified of the incident.
North Cariboo Air is a charter company, headquartered in Fort St. John.

Were the Pilots and passengers freaking out cause that`s what I read on a scroll on the other site???
The ‘other site’ has changed its story to more resemble the one above. They were originally reporting a failed engine.
Like most media outlets, get the story out first… then get it right.
Media always blows things way out of proportion.
I was driving a school bus and and the check brake light started flashing so I told the kids to start jumping out the back door one at a time…after all the kids were off I slammed my foot on the brake and the bus came to a full stop…I forgot what my point was gonna be..never mind.
Can’t do that with a plane vulgar, the brakes don’t work in the air.
metalman.
After what happened to CMA in Vancouver an engine light might cause alittle concern.
But I don’t think the pilots said An engine light an engine light were all going to die.
Pilots freaking out is an oxymoron.
