Financial Implications Of Bio-Solids Dispute May Stymie Opponent
Prince George, BC – A Salmon Valley resident opposed to the application of bio-solids on a neighbouring property says he’d be willing to go to jail over the issue, but the financial implications of legal action launched by the City of Prince George may force him to end his blockade.
The City of Prince George filed Notice of Civil Claim against Andreas (Andy) Angele in BC Supreme Court on February 3rd. Angele says he was served with the notice and an accompanying letter from the City’s legal counsel this past Friday. (click here for earlier story)
In the letter, lawyer Mitch Houg advises that the City has started the lawsuit to deal with any future attempts to blockade Wright Creek Road. He says that the City intends to resume deliveries to the Arnett Ranch starting on February 21st.
As outlined in the Notice of Claim, if Angele were to set up another blockade, the City would seek an injunction authorizing police to arrest and remove anyone blocking the road; it would also ask the court to award damages, including the cost of transporting the biosolids, and the cost of the legal proceedings against Angele and anyone assisting him in the blockade.
Angele has been advised to seek legal counsel, but says he cannot afford to do so. He has 21 days from the date he was served to file a response or counterclaim. He says he was able to glean very little information from a visit to the courthouse yesterday and now plans to do some research on the internet to assist him with his response.
"You know I don’t mind going to jail – that’s not a problem – it’s just the financial end of it," he says. The Salmon Valley resident remains opposed to using bio-solids as fertilizer, but says he may be forced to let the delivery truck pass. "It always comes down to money, doesn’t it."

Is there a link to a site where we can donate to his cause?
I think you should do a little research on biosolids first. I personally think it is better material for fertilizer than straight manure being spread on the fields. There is quite a lot of science involved in producing biosolids.
“There is quite a lot of science involved in producing biosolids.”
There is. And, as normal, some of that science id pro, and some against.
It isi up to administrators to decide which side of the science to believe in.
A call to West Coast Environmental Law might help to determine whether this is a “fight” that is worth fighting and whether they would help with it.

HOW MUCH IS THE CITY OF PRINCE GEORGE PAYING THE ARNETT RANCH TO TAKE THIS CRAP??
The City must spend a lot of time and money going around the country trying to find places to dump this sludge. It has been dumped all over the place, North, South, East, and West. Years and years of sludge deposited on farmland.
Maybe the City should spend some time and money on coming up with a long term solution. Surely we can think beyond dumping on farms.
Biosolids, what a nice name to call shit.
I’d donate $100 to fight the city on this.
To the people against the city of Prince George(and other municipalities running a sewage system)using biosolids as fertizler.
This is another NIMBY issue. If the city was dumping this stuff on my neighbours land I would not be happy either…..but
What is your proposed alternative solution? Please no useless comments like “dump it on city parks” or “dump it at city hall”.
Kolberg, don’t be silly. People here only identify problems. When it comes to alternatives, they’re out.
Why do you consider “dump it on city parks” to be a useless comment? If the stuff is as harmless as they’re telling us that would be the ideal solution. Heck if it’s harmless dump it over all the land where the pine beetle killed everything; that stuff could use a boost.
Why not just dump it straight into the Fraser? It’s going to end up there eventually.
How dare the city dump its crap outside the city. Who produces this stuff anyway?
Hang on, I have more to say but first I have to run to the washroom. Opps never mind I think I answered my first quesiton, we all make this product or at least produce the raw material. Of course there may be posters on here who have nevered gone number two.
Yes, ONLY shit has been known to go down the toilet………
Smart meters, water meters – maybe a sewer meter soon. Then those who use the service more can pay more. I apologize if a politician reads this and has a lightbulb go off over their head.
Some one say, “Go to jail?” Ha ha ha . As for the protesters and any other “lawbreakers”, this town is notorious for “One day in jail and eighteen months probation”. Maybe except for honest taxpaying citizens. They might be exempt. Harper hasn’t built those new jails yet. Not to worry. Besides, no one gets sentenced to jail anymore anymore. policemen, hit and run drivers, illegal immigrants, rioters, swindlers, people who kill other people with their autos, ad infinitum. Blockading bio solids, eh? Get a good lawyer who can postpone your trial for about three or more years, then yer good to go.
No protesters in this town. I meant Vancouver.
Hmmmm? What are we notorious for?
Keep fighting Andy. You are representing all people who are not in favour of the madness that is sludge on farm lands.
Maybe give some thought to having friends set up a means for people to donate money to help out with legal costs, if you decide to take it that far.
metalman.
